"A bit disappointing "
The Hilton is well-located in the city of Cardiff, opposite the castle (across a busy and noisy road). With poorly-insulated windows and noisy air conditioning and in-room fridge, a good night's sleep is not guaranteed on the basis of my three nights here. It's disappointing for a business-friendly hotel (and unlike nearby hotels) that breakfast isn't served before 7am (although they do offer a takeaway paper bag with coffee, fruit and croissants/muffins in plastic wrapping for early risers). The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom big with a separate shower. Some staff (particularly the overnight team) are friendlier than others. And the 20m pool is very good. But I'm not sure I'd stay here again as there are better local alternatives.
"Service with a smile"
We had a spacious room overlooking a small park, with a distant view of the Town Hall. It was well-furnished, with a good bed - to be expected of a reputable hotel, of course Both being 'of an age' we requested an extra suitcase stand and chair, and these were readily supplied. In fact it's the very high quality of the staff service which I'd like to highlight. 'Service with a smile' is a well-worn cliché, but the Cardiff Hilton staff really embodied it. I'd commend the breakfast, too. Something good for all tastes, and in abundance. Fruit juices; whole and chopped fresh fruits; wide choice of cereals with yogurts, compotes, dried fruits, nuts and seeds to accompany them; continental section with cheeses, cold meats, salad and olives; traditional 'full English' cafeteria-style, but accompanied by cooks who were happy to prepare dishes to order like omelettes and eggs Benedict. Add to all this a great selection of artisan breads, crumpets, English and US muffins, croissants and Danish pastries. Great coffee, and friendly and attentive service. Need I say more' Cardiff a very attractive city to visit, and we shall hope to return to the Hilton.
"Afternoon tea experience"
The experience was very pleasant, although there was no room in the main area so we were relegated to a rather gloomy area with no windows. There was a good range of teas and the food was the usual afternoon tea fare. In view of the price I was expecting bone china and the cup resembled a mug with a saucer, rather disappointing I felt.
I stayed at the Hilton Cardiff from 19/05/17 - 21/05/17 and overall I was pretty satisfied. The breakfast was wonderful, with a special dish prepared every morning it made it a big culinary event. I have to pay credit to the housekeeping team, I like to have my breakfast early (8 - 8:30) and returned to my room to find it sparkling clean. One thing I hate is having my room not cleaned by at least 12:00. But the housekeeping team at the Cardiff Hilton were immensely professional and went above and beyond my expectations (which are pretty high). The only downside to my visit was the service I received by the spa. On my arrival I went to the spa to see if they could fit me in for a massage, there was no member of the spa staff present, but a member of the gym staff helped me and said she would give my details to the spa staff once they returned. I left and stayed close to the hotel in preparation for the phone call, however I waited for the rest of the day with no call. I returned the following morning which was the day I happened to be busiest, to find out what had hapened. The member of the spa staff team I spoke to seemed very inexperienced and lacking in any knowledge of my enquire. I understand that the spa is not part of the Hilton, however they have clearly rented out a space of their property to a business they advertise as a facility on their website. As a facility of a Hilton Hotel I expect the same standard of service from a business based at the hotel as I would from the hotel. I feel Hilton Cardiff should break their partnership with this Spa and find a more professional business that has higher standards and puts the customer first every time.
"Be careful with car parking"
Whilst the hotel is lovely and the service good the valet parking at £25 per night which is in the small print is expensive. Add to that the junction you are forced to leave the hotel by is confusing and the twice I left I ended up in the bus lane only to receive 2 £70 penalties on my return home!
