"BYOB to the Pool, Really'"
Reception: So we decided to stay here for two days because of the location and brand recognition, thus we expected a superb service, well it was not. Upon arriving none of the 3 service desk reps greeted us, just a normal "can I help you", I can get that anywhere. People, this is the HILTON, live up to the brand. I was expecting "Good afternoon, welcome to the Hilton Post Oak, how may I help" or something similar. The Room: I would rate it 4 out 5 stars, plenty of space, updated TV, outdate phone system - but works (to call the reception or guest services). The restroom/shower was very nice; good closet space for a three night stay. They provided two complementary bottles of water. THE BED: too soft for me, great for the wife. BYOB to the Pool!: So here it goes - I thought I was staying at The Hilton, not Da Hilltown. There was this couple with their two kids along with a cooler full of Tecate Light and a bottle of "water", yet they were taking shots from the bottle; they also had limes and drinks for their kids in it. They also had the audacity to ask the bartender for three empty glasses, salt and knife to cut the limes, to take the shots. I had the bartender if people could bring their own beverages to the pool and he replied "no, but I'm uncomfortable to ask them not to drink them". Even the Bar Manager, who brought out the ice and assisted at serving, did not say anything. I guess he too was uncomfortable. On top of that there were four young men with a case of Michelob Ultra next to the pool. Furthermore, the hotel could invest in replacing a broken pool umbrella and adding a few more. I understand that the pool area is small but it could have more charm. Parking: Valet parking is $30 while self-parking is $20. So, we cut our stay from two nights stay to one night stay and moved to a less ranked brand hotel, which offered same amenities, free parking, free breakfast, lower price and no BYOB. Check out: Again the service was not exceptional, here the front desk could had redeem themselves but I got the same phrase "can I help you", instead it would had been good to hear, "good morning Sir, how may I assist you" or close to it. In short, service desk staff need training, as it is not in par to similar brands, pool needs up keep, and parking could be lower. In case you are wondering I have stayed in over 300 hotels, ranging from 12 euros in Barcelona to the Ritz in Cancun. Hope you get better experience than we did.
"New, Clean and Luxurious"
Got a fantastic deal on this hotel on Hotwire. Great location right off of Westheimer Road; walking distance to the Galleria. Room was large, clean and new. Shower water pressure was good. Beds were great. Self parking is available and convenient with attached garage; extra $20/night.
My husband and I went for an Astros game and met friends that stayed at the Hilton by Minute Maid Park. Their hotel was contemporary and clean. The location of the Post Oak was in the proximity of the Galleria which was nice.
Great Hotel near galleria Mall! Beware of Parking Fees tho because the price to park was a Joke! No need to charge 60 dollars to park your vehicle! Hotel Bar was nice food actually pretty good especially the Pizza!
"Decent hotel with good service but not great "
Stayed here for 3 nights during a business trip and had an okish stay. Cannot fault the staff for service as they were mostly polite and courteous although the room service could have been better. Response time from front desk was also a little slow. The property seems like it has aged and appears a bit tired. Rooms are big enough and reasonably equipped but needs a bit of modernisation. The pool area on the 2nd floor is good but seems a bit tucked in the corner and isolated. The restaurant serves good breakfast and service was good although some waiting can be expected. Some of the older staff members were quite helpful and knew what good service standards are all about. The hotel's free shuttle service is a good facility but at times the frequency of service can be slow. The location is good and a short walk from the galleria shopping complex and business in the area. There are quite a few hotels in the area but even then the hotel is very busy as most of the others are too. Considering the competition Hilton should do a bit more.
