Luckily I booked months in advance with a group rate and had a nice visit to NOLA. Location is near French Quarter and Harrahs. Rooms are average size with soft beds. It is also connected to the Riverwalk Shopping mall via overhead walk way.
"No room, despite reservations"
Traveling for a business conference that was to be held in the same hotel. Booked our rooms 4 months in advance and let them know that our flight wasn't arriving until after midnight. Followed this up with multiple calls, reiterating that we would be checking in quite late. Arrive after 9+ hours of travel to find that none of the 5 rooms we had reserved are available. Spend 2 hours going through the process to be "walked" to another hotel and getting checked in at that hotel. Miss the majority of our classes for the day due to the complete bungling of our room situation. One of the "premium" rooms we were supposedly upgraded to was a little bigger than a closet. One of the rooms had lights that would not work in the bathroom, which required waiting for maintenance to come and completely replace the switch. Overall the worst hotel experience I've ever encountered.
"An outstanding property"
New Orleans is a city geared to the convention visitor and this may be the best hotel for just such a stay. The Hilton is connected to the Riverwalk Mall and then you can exit that edifice and you are only steps away from the Morial Convention Center. The rooms are a bit larger than I expected and include a nice refrigerator, it also had a very good A/C system, most welcome on some very hot and humid New Orleans days. Our room looked down on the outdoor pool, which we didn't visit, but it certainly looked nice. The most noticeable thing is the staff itself, they are perpetually busy and eager to please but never intrusive. The bell desk, right next to reception, is always happy to stow your luggage, the Security Guards are on patrol to keep the property safe, and others are always cleaning, tidying and keeping the property a showpiece. Simply put, it is a marvelous staff. There is a nice small gift shop, complimentary daily copies of the USA TODAY and the Wall Street Journal. There is also a great bank of free to use computer terminals, which is great for those of us who do not travel with a laptop but my still want to occasionally check our email or the worlds headlines. You'll find yourself at home here.
"Good location, difficult navigation"
Spent one night there for a conference. The hotel is nice, however, split level with lobby and restaurant is a bit confusing. There no signage for the meetings and rooms and it was difficult to find the meeting rooms etc (needs getting used to).
I stayed here for 5 nights on business in August because of how close it is to the convention center. My stay was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean (with no mildewed or musty smell) and spacious. Perhaps the favorite part of my stay was the helpfulness of Vicki Capro, at the concierge desk. She came through on multiple occasions helping me find the perfect restaurant for our large group. It's a little overwhelming when there are 1,000+ restaurants nearby! She even offered to make reservations for us. A great experience!
