Clean, small, but adequate size room. Comfortable bed. Perfect location for the first time visitor to Amsterdam. Located next to Dam Square. Short walk to Central Station, main shopping district, Red Light District and Jordaan neighborhood. Walking distance to multiple tram routes. Professional front desk.
"Few quirks, would stay there again"
Extremely centrally located hotel, steps from Dam Square and across the street from best department store in Amsterdam. Tram stop in front. Very helpful staff. Restaurant is being renovated, so hotel gives voucher for breakfast next door at Swisshotel (added to hotel bill). Noisy during the day due to renovation. Spacious rooms/average bathrooms. Quirks: Room key was rejected 3 times. Water temperature in shower (no tub) can change suddenly to very hot.
"Great hotel, great location "
If you want to be staying in the heart of Amsterdam, then this is the place to stay! Accomodation is great - clean and comfortable; and friendly and helpful staff. I would stay here again when we come back to Amsterdam! Renovations are currently in place but it hasn't had a bearing on our stay at all.
"Unaware that it was undergoing renovations!"
We had stayed in this hotel two years ago and decided that we would stay there again. We made our decision based on two factors. Firstly, it is in a great location on the Damrak, Amsterdam's main street and situated very close to Dam Square. Secondly, we had greatly enjoyed having breakfast in the dining room at the front of the hotel, sitting and watching "the world go by" along the main street whilst eating our meal. When we arrived at the hotel, we were astounded to see that the ground floor of the hotel was under renovation and consequently the dining room was not available for meals. Instead, breakfast was available in the Swissotel Hotel, located several doors along towards Dam Square. When we commented on our disappointment at the reception desk, the staff member on duty said that travel agents had been advised of the renovations. On returning home, we checked with our travel agent and were told that our agency had not been advised of the renovations! In any case, we discovered that the breakfast served in the Swissotel Hotel was excellent with outstanding service but without the view. Our room for this stay was larger and more comfortable than the one that we had been allocated for our first stay. It still was not luxurious by any means but it served its purpose as a comfortable and relatively quiet place to sleep during our stay in Amsterdam. We would stay at this hotel again on the assumption that the completed renovations made it better than before. Its prime location makes is a real winner for us. The staff at reception were as on our previous visit, friendly and only too willing to provide helpful tourism advice. Let's hope that the street view from the dining room remains after the renovations are completed!
"Big rooms without wardrobes "
Excellent location, very friendly staff. TO IMPROVE: •The space could be better used; Despite being a very large double room, we don't had a real wardrobe :-/ according to the size of the room, there is enough space to have a descent wardrobe. •The bathroom was not really clean.
