Art hotel is a walking distance from Rome's most famous attractions such as the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain Pantheon, and Villa Borghese gardens.
"It really is all about location"
Hard to find a better location - in the thick of things, yet tucked away on a quiet side street, this hotel makes a great home base from which to explore the city. Attentive staff, clean, well appointed rooms and a decent breakfast included and all at a reasonable nightly rate make this a safe choice.
"Location is Key"
We have just returned form a 4 night stay at the Hotel Art by The Spanish Steps and here is my review. I had emailed the hotel a week before following a link in their website to let them know of my booking and to confirm that 2 separate booking of 2 nights each should be merged together. Reply from them the day after confirming everything was good. We arrived at the Hotel at around 12 noon and where checked in immediately by friendly attentive reception staff. Check in is usually 2pm but our room was ready. We had booed an executive room and it didn’t disappoint. Our luggage was taken to our room by the bell boy and he showed us around the room. The Room. The room was modern and very clean. Large comfortable bed and 2 lovely pillows (1 was feather and the other one was memory foam). Large wardrobe and free safe available and enough drawers to suit. Slippers and bath robes there too. Bathroom was large and clean with the normal condiments on the shelf. Mini bar in room (expensive though) and something that I have never seen in a hotel before was the FREE mobile phone they give you for your stay. This means you can take it out with you to use for Maps, connecting to others and general free calls. The phone was called Handy and it truly was Handy. Amazing touch. Some reviews mention how small the room is but not this one. 402 right on the corner on the blue floor was perfect. We did have some issues with the Air Con unit though. You can control it yourself but the minimum temperate we could get it too was 22 degrees. Being from the UK this was simply too warm for us. After asking a number of times at reception to change this it never quite happened even though they assured me that they had set to the lowest temp of 11 degrees, It would still not move off 22!! Breakfast. Served from 7am till 11am was plentiful. Fresh coffee, tea, Orange juice, Smoked Salmon, Prossecco, water etc etc, A very small selection of hot food. We stuck to the cakes and boiled eggs. The location (as others have said) is just perfect. Close enough to the Metro and Spanish Steps but quiet away from the main road and shops. There is also a 24hr supermarket about a 3 min walk away for some extra stuff. I’d defo stay here again.
"Location, location, location"
Where to begin' This was a different hotel. They try so hard to be stylish, but sometimes functionality needs to be more important than looks. The good: Excellent bed and madras. Like in really good. Roomsize small, but that was expected. Breakfeast was good, cleaning was good, the staff was nice. The bad: Noice... they made the hallways of glas and very hard surfaces, o any noice is reflected and enhanced. You will hear everybodys doors open and close, a pair of flip flops outside your door, sounds like a dutch tradiotionel dancer in wooden clocks. From upstairs you will hear the toilet flush and the hairdryer mimics a F18 jet. I never figured out the aircon ... it seems your choices is on (very cold) or off. It shows some sorts of adjustementpossibility ... lov-eco-high but theres was no apparent difference in noiceleve or cooling, regardless your choice. Your shower will fluctuate in temperature, and if you try to use it while fastened to the wall, it will behave like a firemans powerhose and spray all over your bathroom. The showerfloor is very slippery, and the little shelf to place your shampoo is crocked, so at some point you will need to find the shampoo at your feet. The bathroom is small, but for some design purposes they have placed a zink, so large that it could be used to park a bus. Maybe small things, but I cant help wonder ... who makes these decisions' So Art Hotel .. use a silicone-sealant to make your doors more soundisolating.... and put some carpet in the hallways, to dampen and absorb sound. And drop the turndown-service .. thats just silly.
"Accommodation : the Art Hotel"
Excellent location, away from Main Street, quiet and yet never too far from many good restaurants and places of interests especially the Spanish Steps and 15 - 20 minutes to walk to the Vatican City, among others. Closest metro station is Spagna, a mere 7 minutes walk where you can train to the Termini to catch the train to the airport. However, be wary of the cobbled and stone streets that poses a challenge to pulling your luggage. Can from Termini to hotel is about €10 & slightly more if you get hotel concierge to get a cab to return to the Termini (€15 or thereabouts inclusive of luggage). Room size varies but generally adequate. TV has English news channels including BBC, SKY news, CNN International & etc. Toiletries are provided except tooth brush & toothpaste. Shower space is tight & shower head is not rain shower type & not the most practical. There is a bidet too that is essentially a tap & seating bowl, nothing like the Japanese bidet! No complimentary mini bar or water. It's a shame that hotels never learn to provide free water or reasonably priced mini bar. Fret not, a 24 hour Carrefour is within 4 minutes walk!! Breakfast is included - reasonable spread. It cost €7 if you ask for freshly cooked eggs, sunny side up or whatever! But you can ask for your cappuccino, expresso or whatever at no extra cost (without ordering eggs). Bell hops are friendly and the checkin duty person in the night shift is friendly & helpful. I would be careful with the day shift person if asking for restaurant recommendation or for taxi. He will try to convince you that it's cheaper to cab to the airport because he's Italian & knows best but his sums of the cost of cab to Termini & train tickets to airport don't add up. There is free wifi & a free internet connected hand phone cum guide to places of interest called "Handy" in every room for guest to take out. Unfortunately, mine didn't hold its charge and ran out of battery in less than 30 minutes! Overall and on the balance, I would recommend the hotel but price wise is subjective on individual 's assessment of what is value for money. It has its charm and the vicinity too has its character.
"Surprise in very central location....yet in picturesque side-street.....mint"
booked shortly ahead and got lucky. from booking, to arranging parking to restaurant suggestions and bookings all been handled seamless and extremely professional. Caring and very kind personal. Hotel with funky' floor colours with the historical parts shining through in certain areas mixed with design elements. a great find!!!!
