Ca' Nigra Lagoon Resort is located on the Canal Grande, the main and most suggestive waterway of Venice along which most of the city's majestic palaces stand.
We had great service from all the staff, they were helpful, friendly and good fun. We celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary and although the hotel in Verona gave us a bottle of Prosseco to celebrate this hotel did not recognise it at all. Our room was really bad on the ground floor sparsely furnished and directly outside our door were breakfast tables. It was very noisy and we were very disappointed with it. The hotel is also 30-40 minutes from the centre of Venice.
"Modern Venetian touched with antiquity. "
I'm writing this in retrospect only because I'm already booked to go again and I have lost count the times I've stayed at this chic boutique hotel. The location may put some people off, yet it's closeness to the train station is a plus when hauling a 42 kilo case across the bridge! What is so delightful about the hotel ( there are so many things ) is it's the only one to have a garden which faces onto the Grand Canal. You can sit and take drinks while watching Venetian life float by. The hotel is situated behind a vast wall and would go unnoticed if you weren't of a curious nature to look inside the archway at the front. Behind is a beautiful garden that gives a tranquil feel and sometimes in the chaotic bustle of Venice in the high season, it's refreshing to return to such a haven. Having been in all seasons it still remains magical. The hotel sensibly offers no evening dinner as there are many places to eat, Paradisio ( that's another review ) near the Rialto Bridge for one. The breakfast is modest but sufficient. This undersells the place, but it would be misleading to say it was of a standard that one may be used to in a hotel on main land Italy. The ethos here is go outside and sample all the amazing coffee shops and eateries. The same in the evening, go tickle your taste buds with the few locals that live in this beautiful city. Enjoy the authentic Venetian food, beware the commercial tourist traps! The rooms are what make the Ca Nigra. They are different and are of an eclectic style. Modern style and antiques fill the spaces inviting a sumptuous feel with some very quirky aspects to the bathrooms. All the rooms look like pages from a design magazine and if aesthetics are your bag, then you're in for a treat. In summary the Ca Nigra is a brilliant, stylish bolt hole for anytime if the year. Luxury and quiet are the key factors and the convenience of transport. By the way, you can arrive by boat as I have so often done! There is no other way to arrive with the thrill of the boat at speed across the lagoon and then the slow progress as the vessel enters Venice, magical.
"Charming hotel in Venice"
This is my second stay at this hotel. Both times has been very pleasant. The hotel is not on the main road, which lends to it's serene charm. It is tucked away from the main road crowded with tourists. If you want to stay at a charming, quiet hotel that delivers good value for the money, this would be a great option. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are very spacious. Do ask for rooms with a modern bathroom. The older rooms are decorated in older, dark furnishing with steps to the bathroom; not a great thing during the night. Wifi is free and so if breakfast with quite a few selections to choose from. Getting to the hotel will not be easy if you have luggage. Suggest hiring a porter service to cart your luggage while you walk to the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel.
"35th Wedding Anniversary Disappointment."
If you are going to book a room at this hotel, please read the following very carefully. We booked this hotel in October 2016, as a special destination to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, having looked for somewhere special to stay for 4 nights from 30 March 2017 to 3 April 2017. We reviewed the Hotels website and engaged in conversation with the hotel to try and ensure that we had booked the right place to stay, we even specified the room that we wanted to stay in being the Junior Suite overlooking the Grand Canal with a balcony. We paid up front on a non-refundable basis as there was a special offer available at that time. When we arrived we were extremely disappointed and subsequently angry to be told that the room we booked was not available and further more that we had never booked the room in question, and that we were being dishonest in saying that we had booked that room. However we have several emails from the time of booking that prove which room we did book. The hotel insists that room 106 is the same as room 206, which anyone can view on the hotels website and make up their own mind, I can ensure you that it is NOT!!! We have been in communication with the hotel after our visit informing them of our disappointment together with the other issues with the room, to date they have not replied. The list of other issues are as follows. A rainfall shower above the bath, that if used floods the bathroom marble flooring making it slippery and very dangerous. A bathroom window with a roller blind which is useless if a light is on in the bathroom as anyone can see in, clear as day. not ideal to say the least. A coffee machine with no instructions as to how to use it. An Antique chair that would look better if re-upholstered, the same as the other two chairs in the room. The double bed was in fact made up of two single bed mattresses, most unromantic bed to sleep in, most likely two single bed pushed together and held in place by a sheets. The curtains had pull cords which were not attached to the curtains so were useless. Small and cramped bathroom. Slippers that did not appear until the 3rd night of our stay. And one member of staff, who needs to go to a customer service school to learn how to deal with paying customers. On the good points. Nice garden overlooking the canal, pleasant breakfast, although you have to pay extra for any cooked food, nice antiques throughout the hotel. Also one Very nice member of staff who was most helpful in getting us to our fantastic place for our last nights meal in Venice. If your going to book this hotel as a special venue, then make sure that you check and specify the room you want, by the room number. If we ever hear back from the hotel we will update the review accordingly
"very nice stay in venice"
We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful room near the Garden. Very quiet, clean and service was discreet and good. Very good, diverse breakfast (which is not always the case in Italy) with a wonderful cappuccino! Great saty, would recommend again!
