"Very nice luxury hotel except the awful reception guy"
I checked from the website that Sacher hotel is the very best of Vienna, it's an old classic style hotel with beautiful decorations, the breakfast is also nice ,gives the guest many options. The Sacher tea is also amazing. But the reception guy is really really awful. When we arrive the hotel, I told him that I need to go out soon,he told me the room is not ready so that I need to pay extra 50 euro to upgrade. I said that I just come from another leading hotel group hotel from Prague, and as I stay the hotel for three days, wish to have a free upgrade. He said no very strictly and unfriendly. Then I accept to pay 150 Euros to upgrade. But still I waited the long time for the luggage to my room, caused me cancel some of my plan. When I check out, they ask if I'm satisfied with the stay.I told the reception girl that satisfied with the hotel but the luggage issue. So I ask if she can cancel the 150 charge, the girl said that needs to ask supervisor. And it's him again ! He come and deal with me in a very arrogant attitude. He said I can not erase the money, I can only offer you a coupon or a Sacher cake. I told him I am not sure when I back so the coupon is not useful to me and I will go other cities so that it's not convenient to take a cake with me. He said I can only offer this. With out any warm apology.I said I hope you at least erase the fist day of the upgrade fee cause you admit that you cause my inconvenience .He said : No ,I can not! I really feel angry with this tall guy. From beginning to the end, he never give smile to me and deal with the complaints in such a arrogant attitude. As Sacher is a nice hotel with long history, this awful guy ruined all the best feeling with the hotel ! I have traveled lots of luxury hotel, like manderin Oriental, ritz Carlton ,Le Bristol etc, it's the first time I met a supervisor to be like this attitude! It's the also the first time I feel so angry and uncomfortable in this kind of luxury hotel. I guess he may discriminate against Asian people. In a word, I really feel bad about him! I hope next time never see him again!and if you stay in this hotel ,wish you not see him!
"Excellent Sacher Torte, Excellent Service, Excellent Location! A MUST in Vienna."
I've been to "Hotel Sacher" now 4 times and every time it's been amazing. The cake is of course excellent, and it's worth every cents spent for it. The service is amazing, waiters are extremely kind, caring and willing to provide explanations and suggestions. Some of them even speak other languages (such as italian, for example) which makes customers feel more comfortable. I tasted several cakes (apart from the Sacher Torte) and teas, and I must say they are all utterly delicious. The only downside stays the queue to get a seat, but it is actually fast and trust me, the experience is worth every second spent in the waiting line.
We stayed four nights over the New Year's holiday. When booking, I wondered if the Sacher would feel a bit worn or faded like some famous grand hotels. The property and room were pristine. Staff members were warm and welcoming despite the chaos of busy New Year's in Vienna. Our fourth floor Top Deluxe room was small with nice windows and a view to the Albertina, I wish the bed hadn't been two twin beds pushed together (typical in Europe, but not great for the high price). The breakfast buffet and dining rooms are beautiful. Also the room service was surprisingly good and served with a cheerful attitude. Thanks to the hotel for a memorable stay.
This is the only place to enjoy Sacher torte. You'll see it on menus in Vienna, but these are imitations , in my humble opinion. If you like dense bittersweet chocolate cake with apricot and chocolate glaze, and like to be served in classic surroundings , get yourself to this cafe.
"Beautiful and historic hotel"
We took a five day road trip from Bristol, Vienna being our destination to meet old friends. The interior of the hotel is fabulous and luxurious and our room equally so. The staff were extremely courteous. Whilst breakfast was very good it is busy and can be chaotic, so on a Saturday I would advise going early or last thing. We had an early breakfast on the Sunday before our drive to Reims and it was perfect!
