"A Mixed Bag"
This is a (very) large (chain) hotel which is mostly very good, but let down by the poor quality of its service. Stayed here a couple of nights recently during Ramadan. This is always a tricky time, particularly regarding opening hours and the serving of food and drink (particularly alcohol). Although the general areas and my room were very good, I found that getting good service in the hotel's 11 food & drink outlets was very hit and miss. One was closed (although I was told it was open). One was open - but only for a private iftar, not general dining. One place I went to three times gave me a different story each time about being able to serve beer (depending on which waiter or bar-person you talked to. One place I got seated but continually ignored despite resquests to place a food order, so I walked out. One place (Bird Cage thai restaurant) bucked the trend serving good food with very pleasant and willing service. The hotel was (I estimate) only about 20% full so such generally poor service has no excuse. One other petty thing they did - despite having rooms with a beautiful view of the Nile, put me on the other side of the hotel. Not impressed. My room was well-appointed with flatscreen TV and free WiFi. Reasonably good size pool on 4th floor terrace, with Nile views. It's a good place but they really need to sort out the service element.
I stayed recently for 3 nights with my family, i'm a gold ambassador member of IHG, they upgrade me to a nile view suite, Very nice staff, good location, classic hotel, good restaurants, good condition except bathroom & TV need renovation.
Centrally located. The room was clean but bathroom needs renovation The non smoking floor was respected. No cigarettes smell.Staff was very friendly. Food was also nice and fresh. Ramadan spirit was felt
"Great hotel but disappointed by the service"
Lovely hotel in the heart of Cairo, such a shame the service in some of the restaurants let it down. We were ignored in two locations and our complaints were dealt with very well, however, not pleased to get given complementary drinks to say sorry and then find them on the bill at check out!!!!!!!!! This is a great hotel and sadly the service did not meet our expectations, we had so many other great experiences around Egypt and this was our final special night and we were let down. such a shame.
"Pleasant though not spectacular"
I stayed recently for 8 nights on business. The hotel has a great location, right on the banks of the Nile (albeit similar to most of the large hotels). The other side of the hotel backs on to Tahrir square with easy access to downtown. The check in was very slow despite being late in the evening. Lots of queue jumping didn't much help either. The staff were however very pleasant and professional. The room was large and had a nice view over the Nile. It was well equipped and very clean. It was comfortable and enjoyable. The public areas/lobby were alright but not that conducive to staying in. There was lots of smoking and few areas to sit. The breakfast was good. Lots of choice and attentive service. While there was "smoking" and "non-smoking", plenty of smoke seemed at times to drift from one to the other. Some individual members of staff were excellent.....pleasant, friendly and welcoming. There were a few issues.... 1. The noise.....there is an open air terrace/bar on level 4 which plays loud live music on several evening per week until pretty late. It was pretty clearly audible in the rooms and hindered sleeping. 2. The room service.....this was a bit mixed. It wasn't done at all on one day. On several other days items weren't replaced.....it was only one day that the in room coffee pods were re-stocked.....I had to phone for them otherwise. 3. The pool is alright but not that appealing. The service again from the staff was pleasant and professional but some of the guests brought their own sound system and blasted their music loudly for several hours. As there was also background music playing the whole time it wasn't exactly that relaxing. 4. The room key was forever becoming inactive requiring a trip to reception and sometimes a prolonged wait in line to get it reactivated.
