City centre location with car park- £15 overnight- modernised trad hotel; comfy bed; good service but unspectacular views from room! We had a quiet one!! Beware following sat nav to parking as it involves a bus lane- could be expensive!
"Almost very good"
I really liked this hotel but the biggest problem was the noise! Now, I'm not silly enough to think that staying in the city centre is going to be the epitome of serene and peaceful, but I wasn't prepared for the noise of drunk people, party goers and homeless drig addicts shouting the odds at all hours of the night. My biggest recommendation would be to request a room that is NOT situated at the front of the hotel. The room itself was spacious with the most wonderfully comfortable king sized bed! The hotel was fresh and clean and the restaurant was having a full refurb while we were there. We didn't have breakfast here but did use the bar / café for coffee. Service from reception staff was lovely and the location is excellent for exploring the city. We got a space in the car park (chargeable at £15 per night) which was convenient for a city centre location. I would definitely stay again, now with the knowledge to ask for a room at the back of the property.
"Very attentive service"
We booked a birthday breakfast for a friends 70th. We didn't stay at the hotel as we live locally. Leanne the events manager went over and above the call of duty by making it a special occasion. The table looked lovely white cloth sparkly confetti and a birthday balloon. My request was unusual as they don't normally do a special breakfast with fiz maybe they should as breakfast in a hotel is a treat. The food was good and varied, the fresh fruit should have been topped up, just a small complaint though. Thank you all the staff for putting in so much effort it was much appreciated
"Pleasant enough, but disappointing breakfast"
I stayed here many years ago when I think it was called The Grand. Jury's obviously up graded it, and the bedroom was good (except for the view onto a brick wall). The public rooms seem somewhat stark and are perhaps victim to an interior designer who looked for clean lines and bright lights, rather than reflect on the comfort and relaxed atmosphere many want from a hotel. The breakfast was disappointing and not up to the standard of many of the other local Cardiff hotels I've stayed at. The cooked food seemed to have been prepared in bulk, so luke warm. Not good quality either.
"Central location but very noisy."
Lovely hotel though restaurant being refurbished which we knew about prior to our arrival. Very friendly welcome on arrival. We were able to get a space in the car park. Good bedroom and bathroom though bathroom could have done with a grouting update ( a minor detail). Lovely staircase and wide corridors. Nice not to have to use the key card for the electricity in the room. The noise at night was not good...almost opposite Prizm nightclub so lots of noise in the street. People opposite our room came back at 4 am and continually banged their bedroom door open and shut speaking in loud voices. Noisy cistern constantly filling up in the bathroom above us. Bar staff very friendly and modern decor of bar was lovely. Nice hotel just a shame about the sleep quality.
