"Relaxing, restful And pure bliss"
I will start by saying this is a healthy resort. Designed for detox and treatments. If you want alcohol or a burger look somewhere else. This place is magical. I had a 7 nights detox/ stress burnout program. Your days are filled with massages, treatments, yoga and meditation. The healthy/clean food is just delicious. I went on my own and about 80% of the people there were solo. The beach isn't really a good swimming beach. Very shallow and lots of coral (the only disappointment) Kamalaya is a place you go to find yourself again and balance in your life. I will absolutely be coming back in my own.
The best place for detox and rejuvenation! I was there a year ago with a couple of friends for only 4 days 3 nights, but wow... I felt like I was away for way longer. We joined the detox package, with 3 meals and massages inclusive. A quick health consultation, which was informative and helpful. There were daily activities in which you can join for free, with great instructors (yoga teacher was amazing). The atmosphere exudes peace and quiet, food is also clean and healthy. The lap pool was one of my favorite - with a view to the beautiful gulf of thailand sea. Massages were unique - I have been to other health retreats around asia, but the masseuse at the Kamalaya is out of the world - i even fell asleep doing a hand massage! In a nutshell, this is now my go to place if ever I need an R&R, and I would highly recommend others to visit.
This property is STUNNING, the service is incredible and the food on offer second to none. However, when booking here please keep in mind that this is a very holistic property. Quiet voices and meditation are the norm. This was fine for me for 5 days, but I don't think I could have done anymore, the very serious, non smiling guests and foreign staff would have driven me crazy. But if yoga and meditation are your thing, it's perfect for you. Due to the cost, this resort attracts a lot of "burnt out" older guests, looking to disconnect. So if travelling solo and a little younger than 35, this might not be the place for you. Some negatives include that there is no beach, it is more a swamp, and there are no mobiles allowed in the common areas. Only 1 hour of wifi is included in your stay to be used in your room. Treatments were good, but unfortunately for the price not amazing. Except for the Reiki, which was phenomenal.
"Best Thai massage I've ever experienced"
This is a spa without the clichés. Well ok its a spa so it has all the cliched spa things, but because it has been so wonderfully designed to fit the natural beauty of its location it feels well, so much more natural. It has a gorgeous little beach, wonderful natural-feeling dip pools & lots of private treatment rooms dotted all over the property. I had many wonderful treatments, but I had a Thai massage that rivalled any massage ever. The food was also good - there was a fresh and interesting detox menu from an awarded German chef when I was there...sigh... one day I'll go back.
"Serene detox health spa with great food and pampering"
This is an amazing health retreat...superbly positioned on a hill leading down to the beach...it blends beautifully with the environment... All the facilities are amazing, the food is wonderful..depending on your choice of program you can choose to have detox menu or alacarte...which ever you choose the food is a very high standard. I did 3 1/2 days detox and 1.5 days of a mix..the Thai food on the alacarte was some of the best we ate in 2.5 weeks in Thailand. Staff are ALL fabulous..caring, intuitive and professional.. we couldn't fault anything or anyone.. We chose a hilltop room which was great if you plan to use the gym, yoga pavilion and Pilates studio..it meant only one trip down to the seaside pool and lunchtime restaurant..and only 1 trip up the hill.. Unless you want a lot of privacy I personally wouldn't recommend the villas near the sea...the beach is not great and it means a lot of walking up 'the hill'. Only 2 complaints was that as a couple we only got 1 internet password for free hour access...there should 1 per person per week. And they have a stupid swap policy ( you loose 20% of the value) if you choose to swap any of your treatments ..I swapped a 90 min Thai massage for a 90min oil massage ( because I don't particularly like Thai massages) and it wasn't explained to me that it would cost an additional 700+BHT.. grateful they reversed the charge..but caused annoyance when I was presented with a bill..just when I was feeling extremely relaxed.. Other than that..highly highly recommend Kamalaya..and will definitely return.
