Stayed here on business for one night only. Room comfortable though small in comparison to some hotels I have stopped in, with a view of the park. Reception spoke very little English unlike many hotel receptions. They have a buffet restaurant but I was late arriving and the restaurant had closed. Ate in a more formal Chinese restaurant, in the hotel. The food was delicious with a good, varied menus. Quite expensive though. The hotel felt less international than many I have stayed in.
For less than $90 CAD we had a great room and breakfast for 2 in a very good buffet restaurant included. Easy walk to Panjiayuan market and subway station. NOT in the "middle of Beijing" as another reviewer wrote, but in the southeast sector on the 2nd ring road. Bathroom had a most unpleasant odor wafting in, but that was extremely common across all of the city. NO AC, only heat. Windows have no screens, but neither do hotels in Europe.
We stayed here on a China Spree layover. Our king room was nicely appointed with attractive, somewhat vintage-style "Chinese Modern" details. The bedding and pillows were comfortable. There are some scratches and dings here and there, but the only real negative comment is about a bit of a black mold issue in the bathroom. The hotel's restaurant is quite good.
"A Decent Hotel in the Middle of Beijingl"
First of all, make sure you don't tell the taxi to take you to The Lake View Hotel, but to Lake View Hotel. My mistake, and it took me to the other side of Beijing, near University of Beijing and Tsinghua University (and it looked pretty nice, actually better than Lake View). But for convenience, Lake View was better. Very roomy room, bathroom with both a shower and a tub (didn't use the latter, but it was a nice touch). Nice walking distance to the lake, well stocked minibar, plenty of necessities stocked in the bathroom (though the free water provided was bit modest). Comfortable bed, good reading light. Excellent restaurants, serving food specifically prepared to be healthy (well worth it in Beijing).
