The Palmeraie Golf Palace is located in the heart of the Palmeraie of Marrakech, at the edge of a golf course of 27 holes. The hotel is 15 minutes from Marrakech Menara Airport and less than 10 minutes from the train station, the city center and its monuments.
"Beautiful, relaxing, more of a garden with rooms than a hotel"
One of the most beautiful hotels of the hundreds I have stayed in. Built 25 years ago in traditional mosaic/wood/tile geometric style. Small courtyards of rooms clustered within well tended gardens around a series of connected pools, some of which were for swimming. Constantly serenaded with birdsong. Excellent service. Superb for relaxing. My colleagues in the anonymous, modern, "could be anywhere" Hotel du Golf in the same complex were envious of the Palmeaie's atmoshere. Food was less traditional than I would have liked - catering for western tastes. My shower screen flooded the floor every day but this was scupiously, and invisibly, cleaned up every day, so that just added to the charm. WONDERFUL!
Definitely one of the best places to stay in Marrakech, I spent couple of days there for a business trip, and all was perfect! Room service, pleasant staff, gym club, and awesome breathing area! I recommend this place for holidays or business travel!
"Too expensive for what it is"
Good: room style typical Arabic 1001 nights, lobby style as well, bathroom style nice, stuff kind, friendly and helpful, swimming pool spa. Great location in palmeraie area and close to down town. Golf nearby and you can go by buggy for free. Practice sp cheap: 15€ per full day and very kind stuff they allowed me to play practice for 30 mins for free at the end of the day. Bad: hotel not well maintained: floor, bathroom and swimming pool looks old, breakfast buffet quality: only some items are good the rest not, crowded and looks like they have more people than tables and chairs, we had to wait and fight cause there was no queue. Mosque at the same building (basement) so great especially if you need to make Friday prayer. Conclusion: won't come back unless I find a deal with 70€ per night.
"Lovely grounds, family friendly resort - but...."
I visited the Palmerai Palace over the May Day weekend. It has many advantages, but a few drawbacks. The property is located on the outskirts of Marrakesh. You need ta take a taxi to get to the center of the city. Taxi's are plentiful and inexpensive, but the ride to the old city will take 25 minutes with no traffic, and as much as 40 minutes during busy periods. The hotel property is lovely. The building itself is a modern structure traditional Moroccan architectural elements and materials. And the grounds have extraordinary plantings, Moroccan fountains, and a spacious pool. There is an adjacent golf course for those that golf. During my weekend stay there were many families with small children. That said, I found the property to be serene, with an abundance of chirping birds. It was really very pleasant. The front desk needs some attention. Check-in (late at night required) a 10 minute wait due to a bunch of people ahead of me who were trying to settle their bills in advance of their morning departures. When I checked out at mid-day for my own departure I discovered why so many people try to settle up the night before. The process, or systems, or people -perhaps all three - are very slow. And there are not enough clerks to handle the volume. As a result, I had to stand in line for 20 minutes to check out. This is not good. In summary, the property itself is lovely and peaceful. But the distance from the center of Marrakesh, combined with weak front desk operations, will result in my search for other hotels the next time I return to Marrakesh.
"Not 5 Stars"
We went to this hotel for a golf holiday and were ferried back and forth to the course in the "Green Ferrari" golf buggy - excellent and cheerful service. The golf course is very good but beware - there are NO distance indicators on the course, I guess this is to encourage you to use a caddie so if you have a golf GPS then take it unless you want to pay just to be told the distance to the green. We were also continually hassled by one of the caddies despite being told over and over that No thank you, we did not want a caddie. We were half board and when using the restaurant in the hotel (the others are around the complex), we would be handed a menu, left to make our choice and then when the waiter/waitress came back to take our order they would tell us "No you can't have that, you may only choose (they would then tell us the only 4 dishes on the menu which we were allowed and should have told us that first). It was nonsensical because we didn't want those 4 dishes and whats more in most cases the other dishes we wanted cost LESS. We instead chose what we wanted and had to pay a supplement. Both the Italian and Morroccan restaurants just told us to choose anything from the menu but the Asian restaurant again restricted us and it was very limited. We ordered the same wine in each of the restaurants and it was a different cost in each (380 MAD in the hotel down to 310 MAD in the Italian). The Deluxe double room (no. 4037) - was miles away from reception and as you got nearer to it, there was an overwhelming smell of bad drains in the corridor and in the room. The room looked very grand at first glance but in reality is one of the older rooms and is very tired. The hair dryer cut out after 10 seconds as soon as it got hot and the safe was broken so we couldn't use it. The maids would take our towels away and not replace them so it took several phone calls and visits to reception to get them replaced. The hotel is a puzzle, most of the staff are absolutely delightful both in the hotel, golf club house and the other restaurants. On the other hand one of the doormen clearly does not like females because he deliberately pushed through the door before me and let it go a couple of times. The pool area and garden is beautiful with umpteen different seating areas so no need to rush out and put your towel on lounger! This is not a 5 star hotel, it needs to refurbish and up it's game for that.
