"Loved the Jr. suite but...."
The room was great....spacious, comfortable, fantastic king size bed, nespresso machine, convenient work table with outlets, great shower and bathroom, attractive and comfy seating area, etc. The location is terrific as well and support staff warm and accommodating. However we did not like the french bistro at all, which was a selling point for us. We waited 40 minutes in a lovely but very loud restaurant for an obliterated steak and soggy fries....clearly warmed in the microwave. We were comped our 2 glasses of wine and a bottle of water. When we ordered room service for two continental breakfasts and a pot of coffee and a bottle of sparkling water the charge came to $77. I understand the taxes are steep in Montreal, but that's absurd for a 4 star hotel. So we opted to get our morning coffee and croissants at a shop around the corner by Notre Dame. The japanese restaurant was fine. Usually we stay at Augerge Bonaprte- our favorite hotel, but they were booked solid. Pl Pace d'armes hotel was an okay option, but it will not be our first pick when we return to beautiful Montreal.
"Great but a few flaws"
I love this place and will come back. But a few little things keep me from giving this 5 stars. First off, I love going on the roof but it was closed due to a corporate function. However, why not make the lower roof available. Second, and this was only because of the first. Twice I visited the Bistro 701 and both times the draft beers tasted skunked. Bad cleaning procedures as I know a little about beer. Third, we checked in slightly early with another couple. They got a room we didn't but paid extra to upgrade to a junior suite. We wanted to check in and get to lunch. Well while we paid extra, trying to get to our room was an adventure. Building three seems to use the one elevator for both guests and freight. We got on with a bunch of carts and found ourselves going to the basement, where they exited and additional housekeeping carts got on. And this happened three times in an 14 hour visit. Finally, the continental breakfast used to include some breakfast meats and now includes none. Plus the coffee is served out of carafes, which if not just filled, tend to be less than hot. Again, all minor issues, but when added up, seemed to disappoint us on this visit.! We'll see about next year.
Very big rooms. Character in the exposed brick and fireplace in the bedrooms. Recently renovated bathrooms. Location close to downtown and metro. Excellent service. Comfy amenities. Nespresso in the room.
"Beautiful hotel, excellent staff"
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in June 2017. The hotel staff was to a person fantastic, personable, and helpful. One very minor complaint is that the wifi was unreliable in my room (1307), but they did everything they could to make it better. Nice breakfast in the morning (if you get breakfast included). Lovely rooftop bar, a little sceney and somewhat pricey for the city but again very friendly bartenders and a beautiful view. FWIW we were never inconvenienced by this obviously very popular destination, but if you're on a top floor perhaps you might hear some noise bleed or have trouble getting elevator access late at night when the bar is hopping. Not sure, but worth asking about when you book.
"Beautiful hotel, excellent location and superb staff!!"
My husband and I visited Montreal due to a wedding of a dear friend. My travel agent and myself went back and forth about what hotel to stay in while we were in Montreal. We decided that Le Place d'Armes was the place to stay and boy were we right!! The hotel is lovely, location is perfect and the staff couldn't have been nicer. I'd like to particularly mention Charlotte a lovely young girl from Limoges, France who always had a smile on her face and couldn't have been more friendly, kind and helpful! She's a gem at the front desk. I would also like to mention the concierge Rene! Another very helpful staff member who always had a warm smile and was incredibly helpful. I would say this hotel is more trendy than classic, with exposed brick walls in the rooms and high ceilings and modern amenities! Can't wait to visit Montreal again. Merci beaucoup a tous!
