"Fairmont Hotel Makkah"
Had a chance to stay at the hotel for 16 nights during my Haj pilgrimage. A very huge hotel whose management wasnt upto the mark and Fairmont wanting in the peak season. The waiters were untrained and at times lacking courtesy and efficiency. Lifts were inadequate and wait time after the end of prayers at S 2 prayer hall extended beyond 45 minutes after 18th August. The security staff was highly ill mannered and not worthy of the responsibility given.Room 737 was stinking which the staff couldn't remove despite their best efforts. Enrolment as member of Presidents Club with faulty email address due to language barrier was removed after a couple of days but the promised email on 22nd August is yet to arrive.I have highlighted some of the weak areas for making the stay worthy of a five star hotel located at a convenient distance from Haram with multiple facilities which one could enjoy more with better management.
One of the best hotel in Makkah. We had a room with kaaba view, spacious room, comfortable beds and a huge bathroom with one bath tub and one shower square. Great breakfast, nice buffet with hot bread made front of us. We'll definitely go again!!
"Hajj Visit (Ka'aba View Room)"
Recently I got the chance to spend a night at Makkah Clock Tower, Afairmont Hotel... Ka'aba View. It was certainly a fabulous view, Nice and spacious room with nice wash room and good breakfast. Of all the great architecture and splendid ambience, the body language of people at the reception was too lazy and botherless... They were least bothered with the customers standing in the lobby due to very limited number of seating arrangements. They never took initiative to help you and each time you approach to them, they would just ask you to wait or forward you to another person. The other thing I couldnt understand was dat check in time was 5pm, while check out time was 12pm... it was a bit uneasy as I had already checked out of my previous hotel at 12, and I had to wait for too long to get into my room... and on top of that, the room was still not ready after 5 long hours.. Anyways... too much of the cons, Room was excellent with a marvellous view and nice speakers directly attached to the prayer of the Haram. Nice mosque at S2 floor... Easy access to the haram directly in the praying area. A bit busy escalators which took a bit long to get bk to our room. Overall (due to the view), I still give it a 4 star... Minus the view just as a normal hotel its a 3 star due to services and attitude of the staff.
"Excellent stay during Hajj"
Had an excellent stay during recent Hajj trip. We stayed in the Haram view suite and is well worth the upgrade. The room was spacious, bed was very comfortable. The room had a main bath and a separate bath with shower so worked really well for us. The turnover service was outstanding - due to Hajj, our sleeping hours were all over the place but as soon as we would get out of the room, our assigned service gentleman would approach us and offer to clean the rooms. Restaurants were outstanding with excellent buffet selection. On one occasion when the restaurant got busy, it appeared they were having hard time keeping up with the number of guests. The hotel also has a dedicated prayer area that is useful for very bust times of the year. Room service a little lacking for this quality of hotel and hence 4 and not 5 stars. Once asked for just bananas and they charged us a good 70 Riyals for a fruit tray with may be one or two bananas (I had specifically asked that I don't need the rest of the fruit tray). Also had some issues with keys stopping to work when stay was extended and it took multiple trips to front desk to sort this issue when it shouldn't have taken more than one try. All in all outstanding stay. Pros: - Close to Haram - Rooms are very spacious - Extra bathroom in suite a huge plus - Haram view is truly outstanding and unobstructed - Restaurant offer a wide variety of food options - Being in the mall offers options to buy anything needed (stores like Bin Dawood and pharmacies on the main level) Cons: - Elevators can get busy at times and were really crowded on some occasions. This was still better than the elevator system we had to use with Raffles in clock tower as Fairmont uses its dedicated elevators from main level to the room. Of note, you do have to use at least 2 sets of different elevators so familiarize yourself soon with their system soon after arrival. Also keep extra time for elevators if you plan to pray in Haram as you can easily spend 10-15 minutes waiting for the elevators. We will definitely stay here InshaAllah on our future trips and will recommend to our family and friends.
