"Amazing Stay in Hong Kong!"
From the time we were met at the airport by the hotel's representatives until the time we departed four days later the service was incredible! The rooms are spacious, clean and all of our requests met without any problems. Beds are extremely comfortable! Staff was extraordinary! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to return one day.
"Location, service and comfort! All in one!"
Stayed there for business, two days in December. Well, Mandarim is hard to miss, never anything wrong in my experience. The HK hotel is central, walking distance from IFC towers where you have shops, restaurants and transportation to the airport! Room is large, has a private sort of balcony, with a couch were you can stay and relax to the wonderful view of the bay! Amazing bed and very large bathroom with tub and walk-in shower! Service asian style, all the attention in the world! Just amazing!
"Fantastic location + courteous and friend staff from top to bottom"
We spent 8 days in HK over the New Year's holiday period splitting time between the Mandarin and Ritz (see my other review). A high level of service and friendliness from the staff, top to bottom, were the overwhelming theme at The Mandarin. Although not small, The Mandarin had an intimate feel since many of the staff, including those we did not meet or were introduced to, seemed to know who you are. For example, we had a separate reservation for high tea at the Clipper Lounge a week before our actual check-in date to the hotel. Shortly after being seated for tea, the concierge came to our table to introduce herself and welcome us for our future upcoming stay and mentioned the availability for a reservation at The Pierre for New Year's Eve dinner which would have an unobstructed view of the fireworks show over Victoria Harbor (which we immediately booked). Wow! The hotel also arranged for some extra welcome goodies for our young son, all of which he loved. We had a high-floor harbor facing view (must get) and the hotel is conveniently located in central HK, only a short walk from MTR's Central Station, the Star Ferry and innumerable high-end stores (e.g., LV, Cartier, Prada) and Michelin star restaurants (e.g., Amber, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Otto e Mezzo). Daily buffet breakfast at The Clipper Lounge is varied and of high-quality, though service is a bit frenetic. We also had New Year's dinner at The Pierre (overpriced and a bit too avant garde for my taste) and drinks at The M Bar (friendly staff and great view of harbor and city) and Captain's Bar (great space, comfortable). Pros -impeccable service, friendly and courteous staff -central location is unbeatable -great variety and quality of internal restaurants, bars and lounge space -nicely appointed rooms Cons -rooms a bit on the smaller size -hotel is accessible to public via sky bridge, leads to overcrowding in common areas (at least during peak holiday period) Tips/Suggestions -Definitely grab a drink at The M Bar and Captain's Bar, children are permitted up until 7pm. -For buffet breakfast at The Clipper Lounge, arrive at least 45 min prior to the 10:30am shutdown time as the staff aggressively begin closing it down by 10:30sh and they stop refilling the buffet areas with new food around 10:15am.
"Conveniently located. Extreme dining options. Service can be better. Time for a hardware revamp"
We booked at MO for our Hong Kong stay for this Winter family vacation. We made two separate bookings as we took off to Taiwan for about 9 days in between. Because of this, we had two different suites at two different floors but of the same type. The entire lobby and lounge area are overdue for a renovation/face-lift. The lobby looks like a business hotel lobby in the 80's. There is a difference between old that feels worn out and elegantly classy. This particular MO location gave me the feeling of the old and worn out. Contrary to the hotel decor theme, the elevators are pretty efficient. On the same note of hardware, the swimming pool is like the size of a kid's pool. There's much improvement needed for sound proofing. We stayed on the 6th and 8th floor. With 6th floor being obviously closer to the ground traffic the traffic noise outside is rather annoying. The inside noise would be when our neighbours enter their rooms. It is not so much about the noise of the door slamming but it is the deadbolt or door lock that makes the most noise. Prior to our arrival we requested the Concierge to assist us in making recommendation for dining and helping us making the necessary reservation. All these were done very efficiently and timely. With a few changes that we decided to make during our stay, all requests were entertained. We do not have too many face to face encounter with the MO team at this location other than during check-in and at the breakfast, MO Cake Shop, etc. Most of them were "ok" experience and not particular impressive or live up to the brand. The guest name showed up on the Suite's land line telephone is incorrect and stayed incorrect for the entire stay of 6 nights. The Clipper Lounger buffet breakfast service surely didn't not leave us a very good impression. The other bad experience was during our second check-in, we were not too impressed with a senseless arrangement they chose to make differently from our first check-in. Both times we requested roll-away bed for our 6 year old. We got a real roll-away bed for our first stay which was set up on the other side of the office desk in the living area. This arrangement provided us with full day access to our living area ( sofa and coffee table). With the same type of suite our second stay housekeeping decided to convert the sofa into a sofa bed. We lost access to the entire living area. That same area where the roll-away bed across from the office desk was normally a one green plant space. I was shock at how senseless the housekeeping set up the extra bed for our second stay. We made an immediate request to the lady who led us to our suite and completed our check-in inside our suite. We explained to her that we would appreciate the roll-away bed to be set up the same way they did 10 days ago and so that we could appreciate and have access fully the suite type with a living room area we chose and paid for. We ordered in-room dining during our first stay 10 days ago prior to our second stay which we utilized the living room area to accommodate the dining experience. We would appreciate the same option that we had in case we chose to order in-room dining again. We waited for about 30 minutes before the housekeeping young gentleman showed up with the roll-away bed. He wasn't very happy with the extra work that he had to do. Even we tipped this gentleman he wasn't able to squeeze us smile. Not sure whose idea it was for such inconsistent setup for the same request in the same type of suite but this housekeeping young gentleman should exercise and communicate his facial expression and entire body language to the particular person who made this senseless setup at the first place. As for daily housekeeping, our second stay of 6 nights the office desk were left uncleaned until the 5th day. The tea cup I made myself with English breakfast tea with creamer left a milky mark on the glass which will only take a wipe stayed there for the entire stay. I placed a place linen I took from the bathroom on the desk to avoid touching the soiled office desk also remained on the office desk untouched. Everyday we found small baby fruit flies in the room roaming around. We thought of reporting to the hotel but worried that the Pest Control may be a health hazard during our stay. The in-room dining is the same as other hotels we stayed at before, the food was cold by the time the dishes reached our room. This is not a surprised but also clearly marked that MO Hong Kong cannot make this an exception. The dinning options are rather extreme. The buffet breakfast was a shocker! One of the very few luxurious hotels would provide such poor quality of food and service. The Clipper Lounge looks pretty 70's which matches the Lobby theme. when Clipper Lounge gets crowded, guests are seated in the hallway across a two story high The service and food quality at Cafe Causette were better than the buffet breakfast served at the Clipper Lounge. However, during one of our breakfasts, we were the only table around us with no serviettes. When my breakfast arrived, the server pushed my English breakfast tea all the way to the center of the table and not even within sight as it was hidden behind the stack of three bamboo steamers. Another day when we ordered beef congee, we were not sensibly provided with the Chinese styled spoon and chopsticks. We had to request them. We ordered the beef congee twice. The first time the congee is white colour with sliced beef. The congee tasted more bland. Fortunately, while we chewed on the sliced beef there were some taste. The second time the congee was light brown with sliced beef. Obviously, the second time tasted much better. There seems to be inconsistency The other end of the extreme is Man Wah Chinese restaurant which I would rank it as the best Chinese food at least in Hong Kong with exceptional food quality and attentive service. May be this extreme is a strategy of the property to deter its clients away from complimentary breakfast and spend their money at the other restaurants on site. Providing poor quality of food and service at the complimentary dining options would still smear the brand. The location of this property is very convenient. All kinds of shopping and dining are nearby. Even when it rains cats and dogs in the city, most of the nearby vicinity can be reached by the pedestrian bridges with covers to hop from one building to the other. The MTR subway station can be access from the side of the property by crossing an alley size cross road. Three things will draw me back to this property. Man Wah Chinese restaurant that satisfy my entire family's taste buds, its convenient location and its clientele niche that are more refined and well mannered than all those I stayed around Pacific Plaza with the exception of Upper House and IFC.
