A lovely welcome, immaculate room, and just what you would expect from a quality Marriot. We ate out, left before breakfast, so difficult to give any ratings. However, comfortable beds, and most importantly, literally 10 minutes from the Airport car parks. It ticked the boxes for us.
"The worst airport hotel I have ever stayed at in terms of service"
This hotel was a rewards redemption and I literally screwed up by booking this. it is literally the least well organised hotel I have ever stayed in and given how much I travel for work, let's just say that's not a comment to be ignored. It literally took the front desk attendant over 20 minutes to check me in and there were no issues with the booking. She kept saying that she needed to "find me a room" despite the fact that this booking existed for well over a month. Most of the time was spent giving me a hard sell routine for breakfast, room service, etc. The room is decent. It's not anything special but the hotel is extremely poorly laid out. It's like a damn labyrinth. Plus there's this weird security gate when you come into the parking lot which makes the whole place feel at the same time sketchy and dangerous and overly secured. They also charge for WiFi which in this day and age is like charging for a roll of toilet paper. Add to it that they don't have an airport shuttle and you have the worse concept for a hotel since H. H. Holmes was running one in Chicago. It's literally pathetic how low bar the service is here.
"Let down by the restaurant"
Had a very warm welcome at reasonable reception. We were happy with our room but the experience in the bar/restaurant was appalling. Had to go looking for staff to take our order. Then after 40 mins of waiting for 2 tacos cancelled our order. Totally fed up of waiting.
"Disappointing day trip to spa/leisure club"
As a gift, we received a voucher for a spa treatment, glass of fizz for two and use of the leisure facilities. We used this today (18/05/17). We had a back massage (upgraded to hot stone for £5 extra each) which was lovely. The spa facilities were great. We then went to use the leisure facilities and were disappointed to find that the jacuzzi and sauna were out of action. There was redecorating work being carried out on these 2 facilities which meant that there were workmen present throughout the visit. There were also some repairs being carried out in the pool whilst we were swimming. This was a shame as we had been looking forward to using the facilities and were not forewarned by the spa staff of these closures when we checked in, or when we were shown around. We raised this as we left with a member of the spa team and she didn't seem to be aware of the issues/work and stated that it was the leisure club's responsibility. The closures put a dampener on the visit and we would have preferred to have been forewarned either at booking or at check in.
We stayed her for 4 weeks whilst our house was being refurbished. The hotel is a typical airport hotel with mostly transient guests using the airport and is a comfortable place to stay. However what sets it apart from other hotels is the wonderful staff who made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The executive lounge facilities were excellent and the restaurant service and food were great. Also on site is a San Carlo restaurant which although not part of the Marriott is a 'must go to' restaurant. If you are staying at Manchester airport or are visiting the area don't hesitate to stay here you will be well looked after.
