Even when we arrived, the receptionist said a gentleman will take us to our room and help with the bags, well he just stood there while my husband took the big bag and I struggled with mine up the stairs. Firstly, we were put down in the basement room 101 on street level. The noise from this road is horrendous and why you don't have double glazing is beyond me. We did not have one good night's sleep at all with cars and people walking past. Then to top it off the people above us sounded like they were moving furniture at 3am and every night we were there. Then we go out sightseeing on the second day and come back to our door unlocked and open after the cleaner had been there. This NOT good!!!! The breakfast every morning was great if you got to have any of the hot breakfast, obviously unless you are there when it opens you don't get any. Guests should not have to ask for more eggs and bacon to be brought out, the staff should be checking that it is getting low and replenish it. Overall this was an expensive, disappointing stay and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
The hotel is located in a charming and picturesque area in Bruges. Service is attentive but staff are limited. Room was a bit dated and had a musty smell. This hotel will be perfect for travelers used to B&Bs.
"Charming traditional hotel"
Hotel consisted of 5 old buildings renovated to become one very charming hotel. Hotel is located near the market square. It is advisable to take a taxi to the hotel from the trian station as cobbled roads are quite difficult to navigate when carrying suitcases and it costs only 10 euros. Hotel Staff was excellent. Our room was of canal view and you could see the swans swimming by making a perfect snapshot. Bruges is a wonderful quaint old city with lots of preserved old bulidings. The boat tour is a must, the guide was very informative and funny. Very recommended to visit.
"Fantastic Hotel "
Friendly Welcome right in the City Center. Big rooms very nicely decorated. Beautiful town with great restaurants just around the corner. Happy to have found this place in a town with lots of tourists.
"Perfect place for a romantic break in Bruges "
The fact we've vowed to return says it all. A historic building in a beautiful location on a canal and away from noise, this is a lovely place to stay for couples. Our room was spacious and well equipped with super comfy beds. Welcoming staff were very happy to help and gave good recommendations. The bar and lounge area was lovely (only serviced on request from reception staff) but under used so great if you want to sit and read or chat; and anywhere that stocks Highland Park 18yr old rates a 10 in my book! The buffet breakfast is definitely worth the extra cost - extensive buffet with all variations you could want including (unusually) platefuls of smoked salmon and bottles of prosecco/cava to add the luxurious touch to breakfast. We loved Martin's Relais and look forward to returning
