"Nice hotel in good location"
We stayed in a penthouse plunge pool room which was lovely. The journey from the airport was about an hour, The staff at reception was friendly and professional. It was a long way to our room by buggy. We had stairs up to our room which was fine for us. The room had everything you would need. The wc was a long trek from the bed but was ok. Access to the beach was easy. The drinks and food in the hotel were very expensive and with such cheaper alternatives nearby we and everyone else made use of 7/11. I was going to laundry some clothes thru hotel but would have cost £75 instead the chinese laundry down the road did it for £3!!! Staff around pool were not very cheerful. Breakfast was very busy but a great selection. Hotel was busy mainly with Russians who could be noisy at times. Lovely hotel and would recommend
Reading some of the reviews about the superior sea view room which I had booked prompted me to email movenplck to voice my concerns about some of the negative comments I had seen. This email was not replied to but after we checked into our room the manager called up to offer to upgrade us free of charge.we moved to an outside villa which was nice, the superior sea view room in my option wasn't that bad, but was quite dated. As far as the hotel being 5 star I think you need to appreciate that this is Thailand therefore the star rating has to be taken lightly. The hotel has lovely well kept grounds and is central to Karon. One negative point for us was the breakfast which varied but low quality. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend, but it looses a star due to the breakfast and need to upgrade some interior decorating.
"Overcrowded during high season"
Mövenpick occupies a large compound but felt overcrowded in all the common areas. We thought it would be quieter at the smaller pool but there were some very loud guests who decided to take over and spoilt the relaxation for us. We had booked a plunge pool villa and the first one assigned to us was next to a “swamp”; mosquitoes were all over the room because the windows were not sealed tightly. The receptionist very kindly moved us to another room which was in a better location. It would make a big difference if the windows and doors could be sealed properly. Food selection was fair in the two restaurants we ate in. I expected more authentic Thai cuisine and was sorely disappointed. The best part of this resort is the proximity to the beach. It’s nice to swim in the sea there but cleanliness needs to improve. The restaurants on the street cater primarily to tourists, service seems to be lacking compared to other parts of Thailand. Overall, this visit was disappointing to me.
"Heavenly Plunge Pool Villa! I want to come back"
I truly treasured the service and friendliness of the staff at this hotel, it's the kind of service that makes you feel completely cared for and pampered. Staff seemed very efficient in solving some of my problems and always appeared happy and friendly. The hotel property is vast - if you're one of those folks who just want to stay on resort, you can do that, but it's a very short walk from the touristy Karon Beach walk and town. I can't recommend the value of the plunge pool villas, I was travelling solo but felt like I was on a honeymoon. These rooms are very romantic and something to talk about, I can see how much couples would enjoy these rooms. I liked the variety of dining on resort, everything from casual to fine dining and a great little cafe. The Spa was another highlight - book in advance as they do tend to book out quickly - definitely would recommend a couples treatment if you're travelling with someone special. I really just want to go back - it's totally worth the drive from the airport. Definitely stay there at least 3-4 nights. They also offer a shuttle from the airport that is very well organized - worth the money.
"Familhy holiday - Winter sun and the New Year"
Have no complaints about the resort, the staff or our villa. The staff were helpful and polite, our villa was super clean and we asked to be near 4 other members of our group and we were. Resort is well laid out with a family pool, close the main building, which has a swim up bar and childrens swimming areas and slide. The pool nearest our villa was quieter. There is a busy road that separates the hotel from the beach so there are no beach villa options. Beach itself is lovely and clean.... plenty of watersports on offer as well as bars. Also great for long beah walks. The childrens club was excellent. Really good quality and plenty of personnel there. We left a 2 year old and she loved it and wanted to go back. Karon is a smaller resort a little quieter than its neighbouring Patoong.... so depending what you want. As we were on a family holiday and we didn´t want to stay in the hotel every evening, I was glad we were in Karon. The only complaint I have was our New Years Eve Dinner. We had booked into an open air restaurant and it rained. There was no plan B, no one knew what to do, so we ended up moving our own tables under cover. Our food came in no particular order and our drinks came after we´d finished which was really disappointing. Lots of annoyed people and stressed out staff not knowing what to do. Given the propensity for rain showers I would have thought the hotel might have checked the weather put up big pool umbrellas...however, the music and DJ was brilliant. We went out onto the beach after midnight and lit lanterns for a few absent loved ones....
