"Very good experience, enjoyed the time"
Seeing so many mixed reviews (which vary from 1-5 star), I was a bit worried how our stay would be in that hotel. Here are my thoughts about the hotel: - The hotel is nicely located on the hill giving you the view of a marina and a bit of Mykonos town. Down the hill you can find the beach with few restaurants, convenience store and car rental place. Walking time to the beach is around 8-10mins. Obviously, the trip to the beach is easier than the route back to the hotel. - I liked the decor of the hotel - which is kept in the classic Greek style. We didn't experience any of the problems with the room which previous commenters mentioned. The room was spacious, the bad was comfy and I liked the big bath tube. Our room was located next to the facility room. We are light sleepers and we could hear some noise. We notified the hotel manager about it and... the next day it was all sorted. - Staff - this is something which I found very surprising. I would not share a single bad opinion about staff. The hotel manager spoke to us everyday, liaising with a small talk about our stay and making sure if everything is alright and if we need anything. It made me feel I am visiting my friends house rather than being in the hotel. Same experience I had with waitresses, waiters and bartenders. All these people were very friendly, never refusing to help and their last word was always "you are welcome". - Food - one of my highlights of holidays in Mykonos would be the breakfast eaten on a terrace overviewing the bay area. The food gives certain variety and (something I liked) is kept around Greek cuisine theme. I guess some people maybe expect even bigger selection of food - however, it is worth considering the fact they have limited space on a terrace. So I think the ratio between food area and tables was good. In case of the restaurant (i.e. dinner) the menu is simple. Perhaps too simple and if I could give the advise, then I would advise extending it a bit with some extra meal selection. Things to consider: After I came back home I tried to understand why some people could have negative opinions (which are so different to my experience) and I think the main reasons might be: - Location - you can't have a cake and eat a cake. Being on top of the hill will give a big benefit of having an amazing view. On the down side, it will make you walk to the beach (not much but still). That shouldn't be a problem going down to the beach but some people might not like the 10 min. walk up the hill. - Prices or I should say "how expensive it is here"... it is not the hotel, it is actually the island which is expensive. When we went out and ended up in nice and cozy restaurants, then our bill was sky rocketing. And yes, there are some cheap take-away places but take-aways are cheaper than restaurants all over the world, so let's not compare those two - Service - that is a tricky part I think... and it could be a shocker for some tourists especially from the US. Waiters on Mykonos didn't seem to be particularly nice and some came across as rude. I observed that it is a standard behaviour in restaurants or taverns that waiters / waitresses are neglecting their customers. Therefore, when I arrived back at the hotel, I felt like this is actually an oasis of normality where people treat me nicely. Maybe a cultural thing' Well... that's not the place to debate that. However, for sure the hotel stuff was way above the standard I faced around the island
We arrived at the hotel and immediately were greeted with open arms and kindness. The entire staff strived to make sure our stay was comfortable and luxurious. Thank you to Nancy the assistant manager and Elpida for helping our family throughout our entire stay. They are true go-getter’s and wants everyone to be happy. Each night was perfect and our experience would not have been the same if we had not stayed here. The pool area is gorgeous with amazing bartender and there is lots to do in town! (Shopping until 5 am!) What an incredible hotel I hope to come back to Mykonos and stay here again!
"Home away from Home"
We can’t say enough about this superb hotel and it’s service. I️ travelled with my 21 year old daughter and my 19 year old son. I️ like my luxuries and nice hotels. And customer service is a main priority. And this hotel surpasses my strict criteria. Upon our arrival we were greeted with open welcome arms. My awful travel agent made a mess of things and the hotel starting with the hotel Manager Lupida (Hope), who immediately took care of our 3 person stay in one room with 3 beds. She upgraded us and took great care of us. Nancy, the assistant hotel manager, who never leaves and is always working to make sure you have a wonderful time, treated us like family. Like gold! She was always around for whatever you need. Even if it’s just a hello and smile. She’s great at that too!! And the bartender Elias makes the BEST DRINKS I have ever had. He is truly a creative talented bartender. He puts the M in mixology!! And not to mention that he is funny and engaging. The perfect luxury hotel bartender!!! All of the staff at the Mykonian Mare are wonderful. The hotel is so open and the rooms are spacious and clean and very inviting. The pool is a great place to relax for a while and the ocean is right in front of you. It is a perfect 5 star boutique hotel. The hotels location is perfect as long as you have transportation to get to and from the town. But don’t worry Nancy will help you with that. It’s the perfect distance right on the edge of town. We LOVE The Mykonian Mare LuxuryBoutique Hotel!!
"Beautiful view / location - not 5 Star"
There are positives and negatives to this hotel and I must say we had a fabulous holiday overall but this is not a 5 star hotel. The location is great, up in the hills so the view is beautiful, overlooking the sea and only ten minutes into the town. Taxis can get expensive so I would consider car hire or quad bikes for the more adventurous. The look and feel of the grounds is 5 star and the pictures don't lie on this count. My main issue with the hotel was our room which was clearly run down and not up to standard. The shower head was not attached to anything so we had to hold it up at first, and complaining made no difference. It was badly handled by the staff it took them over two days to fix it and I had to ask for an apology. We were not offered any compensation or a bottle of wine as a gesture, it was generally poorly handled. In general the standard of the rooms was good, but not 5 star, could definitely do with a re furb. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and I have to say the food was disappointing. About 3 star standard for breakfast and we ordered a snack the day we got there and one of our Arancini balls was still half frozen. I'm not sure the prices match up to the quality on that count.
The location of the hotel is one of the nicest. A wonderful sight over the Island and the small islands in front of Mykonos. The entrance of the cruise ships could be observed. You have a direct view to Mykonis town. The bay of Agios Stefanos was within walking distance, as well as the bus stop with very good connection to Mykonos town. The complex is very nice designed. There is a beautiful small pool area, which has contributed wonderfully to the ambience of the surrounding area. The staff is very friendly and helpful and it develops an almost family atmosphere. The rooms are very tastefully. If you have booked "Sea view" you can enjoy a fantastic view. Unfortunately a few things I cannot accept: such as, for example, a not functioning lamp is not noticed, we had no cups for the toothbrush and what is really significant for me and important to mention the "open" designed bathroom area (here especially with regard to the toilet) very habituated. The whole staff is very friendly, welcoming and helpful. And for this I am sorry to say, but to meet the "Luxury Standard" it is necessary a small training for the whole staff to improve the sequence of some activities.
