We arrived late and was given a room that had issues. Carpet needed updating bathroom was terrible. Tap was leaking and did not know till late the next day that the water sat under the sink as there was no drainhole....only in the shower which is unsuitable. The taps shuddered from time to time. The safe was not working and a can of drinks appeared unopened but was half empty. As we had a busy schedule these issues made our stay there most uncomfortable. This room should not be given to guests let alone a priority member! The only plus is the location. Very disappointed indeed. Staff was unhelpful & no complimentry forex service unlike other hotels we stayed in Chengdu & Xian
"Tour of China last stop Beijing "
We are on our home run of China and have had some awesome experiences and food and some bad experiences, but that's Travelling tracking the food with the bad, Right. This Motel was picked by our tour company which so far has had as in China 🇨🇳 Four Star ⭐️ which is more like a Aussie 3.5 ⭐️ Hotel. I had read some pretty bad reviews of this hotel but for us the saving grace of the motel as been. 1 - Clean 2 - Location 3- Bed is really good, our beds have been like tables to lie on even in 5 ⭐️ hotel in Shanghai so this has been great to get a good night sleep 😴.
The Novotel Peace Hotel in Beijing is located in the city centre within walking distance of the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and shopping malls. It is a very nice hotel and the staff were helpful. Rooms well decorated and had satisfactory bathroom facilities. One factor to note is that the beds are very hard to the point of being uncomfortable unless you are used to that type of bed. The lift system was complicated in that two separate lifts were required to reach our room with walks along corridors in between. We had an evening meal in the restaurant on night of arrival and sat in the window with a view of people in the street. The meal was buffet style and like breakfast was good with a wide selection to cater for all tastes. We discovered that there are not many outside eating places close to the hotel.
"Could do much better"
I would not recommend eating here in the evening. The hotel itself is not too bad, but frayed at the edges. Despite all the no smoking signs our floor smelled of dirty cigarettes. The room had clumps of hair and dust in the bathroom. They still use a shower curtain and this was coming apart, yet it would be simple to instal a glass partition. Virtually none of the staff spoke any English. Sign language had to be used even to order a beer at the bar. It is however very close to the pedestrianised wangfujin street and a 15 minute walk to Tiananmen Square. We were here for three nights and arrived late the first evening, so being our first night in China we took the easy option of going to the hotel restaurant. They were doing an Italian theme and the staff were wearing silly gondola style clothes. We took a seat and asked for the menu, to be told it was buffet only. Getting a wine list was tricky and the prices exorbitant. 10 minutes later they came back saying they didn't have the bottle I chose. There was no info about the price of the buffet. There were only a couple of other diners. I went to the counter to find a slice of lasagne that was all dry and congealed at the edges. There was some sort of lamb stew which didn't look appetizing at all and there were Chinese options, which also looked sad and as if they had been out for hours. So I went to the fresh pasta chef and selected a few items for him to toss in the pan. He promptly heated up a tomato sauce and then added the onion and olives, etc that I had selected before throwing in some spaghetti. So I got spaghetti with hot tomato and raw onions. My wife said she saw flies on the fresh food and picked up a couple of slices of cardboard pizza. We left hungry and they still tried to charge us over 600 yuan for the experience. (We later discovered that eating out in Beijing generally costs 80 - 120 yuan for a good meal for 2). We had been stung.
"Good value and location"
Choose this hotel because it was in a great location to many of the main attractions. The staff were helpful and able to assist whenever required. Did pick a non smoking floor but there were some that didn't abide by this however this did not affect the room and was only and issue in the corridor. The room we had was a great size. The shower area in the room we had could do with some redesign but again this hotel was chosen for value and location and fitted with what was expected. There is a nearby shopping main area with plenty of restaurants to choose from for meals. All in all would stay here again.
