Stayed here 3 nights. Location is very central to major tourist sites, shopping and near the Donghuamen night market where we had some silly tourist fun. The hotel was adequate. The room smelled like smoke and the mattress ended up on the floor as it was too soft for me. Rooms were spacious. The highlight was the huge breakfast spread they put out every day. Almost everything hot and cold you could think of and all good quality. There is a small market down the street where you can buy water at a lower price than in the hotel gift shop.
"Great four-night stay!"
We (two adults with a teenage daughter) stayed on the Premier floors, which are on the upper floors. These floors have their own reception, and a lounge where one can get breakfast as well as evening drinks and snacks. One can choose between the Premier floor breakfast or the main one downstairs--which we were told had greater variety. However, the upper room had partial table service, great views and very attendant staff, so we didn't try the lower floor breakfast. The room itself was large enough, was stylishly decorated, and had a good view over a hutong. It was very clean, had large-enough safe for a laptop, and a decent size bathroom with a shower--but no bath. The TV had several English and French channels, including two movie channels and some sports and news channels. There was no 'smell' coming from the plumbing, contrary to the experiences of other reviewers. We liked the small pool. The location is very central, with several shopping centres nearby, as well as walking distance to the Palace. One final point: the staff throughout the hotel, including those on the Premier floors and in the lobby, were unfailingly excellent, going far beyond expectations. We would definitely choose this hotel--and the Premier floor option--on a future visit.
"Not impressed, room for improvement"
Stayed on business, & i have to say that the accommodation was really poor everything in the room was dated. cheap lighting, poor sealant in the bathroom peeling off. Needs a complete overhaul. The butler as soon aw we arrived was excellent and they also had European guy on the front desk who was very helpful. when I stay at the Novotel I expect a touch of class regardless of where I am. Breakfast as ok, but nothing special, i was so disappointed by the sate of the room it spoilt my appetite.
The hotel is dated. The room is basic, the bed very uncomfortable and the room somewhat smelly. However, the price is reasonable and the location great. Staff is very friendly and helpful. (western style) breakfast is OK, but very average for my preference. the WiFi was inadequate.
"Quick stay but very nice"
We were in Beijing for 2 days but due to plane flight delay we only had about 26 hours. We arrived late and the hotel staff were polite and set up wake up call and were very nice. Would recommend this for other travelers on long or short trips.
