"Good location but dated hotel"
Very good location and is very close to the Wangfujing shopping center. Not a bad walk to the tian’anmen square and national museum, if you feel for a good exercise. Hotel has decent food but I recommend having dinner at a local restaurant just a few feet of the hotel where it’s cheaper and better. Breakfast was okay, good actually. Rooms are dated and the carpet in our room feels like it needed a major cleaning. I had suffered real bad allergies staying in the room but don’t let this bother you as I am only speaking for my experience as a life long allergy sufferer. Decent but dated bathrooms with good water pressure and good hot water. My only take on this review is, if you are an allergy sufferer, I’d recommend you to stay somewhere else. Being this is a 4 Star hotel in Beijing, this is an equivalent to a 3 Star hotel to the western hotel standard.
"Good location ... that's about it"
Staff is upbeat and service is good for a Novotel in China. Location is about the best thing of the hotel. F&B is not quite up to mark.. old property with no colour.. only lucky to be in good location and good staff attitude.
"Central location and nice enough hotel"
We found the hotel OK for our needs as were only spending the nights. Compared to some of the other places we stayed in during our tour this hotel was slightly dated. We found the lighting a bit poor. Considering we were celebrating our 43rd wedding anniversary we expected to be accommodated in rooms with double bed but for some reason that was not the case. When queried we were told that it was the agent who had chosen the room for us and could not be changed.
"Dated, Faded and Jaded"
We visited China recently as a small group, our tour was arranged by a very popular agency serving mainly UK and Australia but also some American tourists. Of all the hotels we stayed in China (six overall) this was the worst. The location is great, in downtown Beijing and a long but doable walk from Tiananmen Sq. However, the most important things in a hotel room are the bed, the bath, the amenities and the view. We could understand the view would be limited as it is in a major city and so that was not an issue. However, as soon as we walked out of the elevators on our floor (tenth), we were greeted with a horrible musty and stale smell, as if somebody had been smoking or burning something in the area. This smell pervaded the entire floor it seems and was worse in our room. We were told it was a non-smoking room so perhaps it was the stale carpeting. The bed was not comfortable at all. The sofa and chair were as if they were bought in a garage sale somewhere, old, torn, sagging and overall very dated in appearance. The shower in the bathroom had not enough pressure to have a good experience, so that added to our misery. The smell in the room would not go away and we just had to get used to it. The safe in our room did not work at all and was not fixed during our stay of four nights despite multiple reminders. There was almost non-existent wi-fi although it did work intermittently. We've given up expecting hotel wi-fi systems to be anything useful. Surprisingly, the breakfast buffet was really good and with a good choice. The lobby was large enough. The staff in the hotel, apart from the main reception desk spoke no English at all. The waiters in the restaurant did not know 'cold water' or 'fork', we had to translate it on the phone for them. But that is a universal problem in China.
"Good central location, but needs refurbishment"
The hotel lobby and the bar were nice, but the rooms are shabby and need to be refurbished. Our first room stank of smoke and we asked to be moved. The second room was shabby, the carpet was dirty, the wallpaper faded and the shower cubicle leaked over the bathroom floor. The air conditioner did not work, but we were told that the hotel was full, so we could not be bothered to complain again and put up with a stuffy room !! This hotel was part of a tour arranged by Cox & Kings. I suggest that they should find a better hotel in Beijing.
