"Great location - good rooms"
We stayed here for 4 nights and it was great. We had a superior room which was comfortable and clean with a good bathroom and a small balcony. Staff are very helpful. Best of all, is its location. Across the road from the Prado and in amongst lovely laneway streets full of restaurants, cafes, music venues and other shops. The area is full of a mix of tourists and locals which makes it very nice to stroll around. We would definitely stay here again (this was our 4th trip to Madrid).
We stayed in room 310 at the Radisson Blu in Madrid in May 2017. Location is perfect being just across the road from the Prado. Walk behind the Prado and up the hill cross the road and you are in the huge Retiro Park, which has a boating lake and a number of cafes to sit outside at. Hotel suite was lovely in terms of space. Decor is a bit outlandish. The over large lampshade is really just silly. Comfortable seating, great bed. Room has two toilets separate rooms and a separate bath and shower in the bathroom. Kettle and coffee maker were in the room. Spa downstairs with a small pool to relax in. Three pieces of gym equipment only, running machine, two bikes. Breakfast was very good. Staff were lovely especially Mohammad and Javier on reception. The lighting in the room was really poor and made the room gloomy. I would recommend some brighter lighting. Lots of light switches for very little light. Outside lots of good little restaurants. Some noise from voices travels upwards quite late into the night but it was fine as windows blocked most of this out. Breakfast was good and eggs are made fresh. Nearest metro Banco de Espana. Be careful on the Metro partner had wallet stolen from backpack as we travelled to hotel. Took cab back to airport cost 30 euro.
"Over Priced and Over Rated Property"
Though the location of the property is very good and it carries a good brand it suffers from various shortcomings. The Lobby is extremely small and there is no space to stand and sit for even 6 persons. The Room sizes are too small. The corridors are like a maze of small alleys. Hotel switches off air-conditioning in the night as a policy causing great inconvenience.
Stayed one night here during a stop in Madrid, and the hotel, although much smaller than the usual Radisson hotels, is very typical of what you can expect. Check in was ok, but as a Gold Member I was a bit annoyed with the pushing of a bigger room, especially when I'm an entitled to an upgrade anyway. Apparently he was only authorized to give me one room category upgrade (never heard that one before), but as none of those rooms were ready and we were late for a lunch, it ended with us just asking for a standard room. Other than that we didn't spend too much time at the hotel, but it's location is very good with a small square just outside and a lot of café's, pubs and restaurants nearby. The hotel offers parking in a street just outside, but they didn't seem to be all agreed on the routines regarding this. When we checked in we had to fill out a quite extensive form to use the parking, but when I was carrying out our luggage upon departure, a parking attendant was in the process of writing out a fine to me. She stated that there had to be a visible note in the car, but no one mentioned that to us. Luckily a cook or waiter at the hotel that was outside for a break, overheard the discussion and sorted it out (for this time).
"Front desk could be more welcoming"
We recently stayed at this hotel. It's a perfect location to explore e major art museums in Madrid and in a nice area for evening entertainment too. We arrived late at night and while the guy behind the front desk was trying to sort out our booking, another one who seemed to be in charge appeared and completed our check in in the most unfriendly manor. Considering that the reception is any hotels window to its customer, not a pleasant experience. Throughout our stay most of the staff manning the reception desk seemed to be too busy to say hello. It is these small things that make all the difference. The room was ok, but had a very odd shape and the lack of a proper window (only with milk glass) didn't add to its appearance. Not sure if I would recommend the hotel, mainly because the staff never made an effort to make us feel welcome.
