This hotel is in the heart of Mayfair, just a two minute walk to Selfridges in one direction and New Bond Street in the other. A shoppers dream! The hotel reception isn't particularly large and typically for a London hotel was a little busy when we arrived. After some confusion with our room, we were taken to our Executive Room which overlooked the 'courtyard' which is more of a largish garden. The room was large, with a separate small study area and a large marble bathroom. The best thing about this room was it was astonishingly quiet - in London! We slept so well and can't recommend it highly enough for getting a great nights sleep - amazing. The gym is small but perfectly formed, the basement Executive Lounge is styled in a contemporary way. The breakfast and afternoon tea offering was good but the evening happy hour buffet perhaps not as good as other Executive Lounge offerings - more snacks than anything more substantial - but on the whole perfectly adequate. We'd definitely return - we had an enjoyable, low key stay in a perfect location - all helped by an astonishingly quiet room.
"Before the cruise visit"
I've read the reviews and I have to say that I'm not sure where these people were staying. I've traveled a lot, stayed in a lot of different hotels and I LOVE this place! Stared with a warm welcome and my car door being opened for me as soon as the car stopped, luggage whisked away and two smiling young men opening the door for us. We were met before ever reaching the registration desk and welcomed, then the magic began. We arrived about 9:30 am after an overnight flight so we weren't really expecting a room, Claudia was so accommodating that she began a search to see what she had available. While we chatted I mentioned it was our 40th Anniversary trip and she was so friendly and nice she searched and found us a lovely room overlooking the quiet side street. We were so happy with it and her, she couldn't have been sweeter! Later that evening there was a knock on the door and room service brought in a cheesecake and bottle of wine from this sweet girl! I have stayed in many smaller rooms, ours was quite roomy and while there was no separate shower I think that we can cope nicely without one, the cleanliness of the room is what I liked. Many times in a large hotel the rooms have dust and are just a bit dirty, our room was spotless! Every time we came and went we were welcomed back by the employees and the service was wonderful. I recommend this hotel highly.
"Fantastic location, poor quality of the building"
First of all, thank you for keeping my 200 punds blocked on my credit card blocked for 7 days. It surely makes my life easier... At least someone should have told me that. Now, the so called balcony suite is a joke. Its size is less than a regular Marriott room in most of the World's Marriott hotels. IT IS NOT A SUITE by no means! We came with a 7-year old kind and there was absolutely no place to sleep and the bath size was less than 120cm. We did not accept the room. There was no upgrade available, we were told by the receptionist, despite of the Gold Status. Yes, there was, fortunately, but it took a long discussion with Ivan Munoz who did his effort to resolve the situation. This hotel definitely needs an upgrade. It's worn-out, by far. Carpets, paint, all require a refreshment. Also, a Club floor breakfast is a disaster. Poor choice of food, no veggies, no beans at 9 o'clock, no coffee mugs at the same time.
"Location, location, location (and a decent bed too)"
We stayed at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square for four nights on holiday. The location was ideal - I appreciated the proximity to Bond Street tube station and Hyde Park. The room was small, but that is what I expected of a London hotel room. The bed was clean and comfortable, bathroom tiny, and view of the courtyard was nice. We had wonderful cocktails in the speakeasy bar, The Luggage Room. The breakfast in the Club Lounge was average (continental with some hot options). Afternoon wine and appetizers was much better executed. Appetizers included cheese, crackers, hummus, etc. We found two Ms. Pacman machines in the basement that provided for fun reminiscing of the 80s. I'd stay again.
"Full service and great staff"
I've been here many times and it is generally my second choice to the JW, just down the street, when it is either too expensive or booked. Great example of the great customer service today: My king-size bed was way old and was like sleeping in two oyster shells. The front desk quickly replaced the mattress with a new one! My suite had a nice living room with sofa and extra space. As a Platinum-for-life status guy, they even hooked me up with extra (high quality) pillows and duvet for the sofa. As an extra advantage to choosing the Marriott over the JW, the biz lounge downstairs is a little less sandy and consequently a whole lot more hospitable to westerners.
