Super Pleasantly Surprised. Great location and wonderful staff!Comment of R. Nadege , United States the 2014-05-12
I'm not sure I can improve much on "dennosius"'s review ("Not the posh hotel it wants to be"), which really hit the nail on the head. The hotel is in a great location on a cobblestone street in a little hidden corner of central Rome within an easy walk of almost everything. And the staff were very friendly, helpful, and solicitous. Kudos to them. Nothing that follows here should reflect on them, only on the owner of the property. First, I almost titled this review "faux" because there are faux finishes throughout the building, which just made the place seem cheap. It was defintiely a matter of (cheap) style over substance. In the bathroom, they went for form (rectangular vanity, bidet, toilet) over function (no storage except for a 1' by 1' shelf 7' off the ground in the corner! I honestly don't know what they were thinking. In fact, there was very little storage in the room at all: two 3' shelves all together, one of them partially occupied by the safe on one end and missing a support on the other so it was unusable. There was no closet, only a rod next the shower with only 3 hangers on it. I guess the idea was that your three items of clothing would function as a makeshift curtain for the glass shower. For the shower was right there in the middle of the room! Not only was the shower exposed but you had to climb two formica covered steps to get in and out of it. The air conditioning didn't work, which was not a big deal for me since it was cool enough at night that I could sleep with the windows open and it wasn't too noisy. On day 2/5 I discovered that the door to the room didn't close completely. It seemed to lock but you could still open it with a gentle nudge, so they give me an actual key to use. Breakfast was ok but then on day 4 we were told that breakfast would be served in our rooms, which seemed to baffle even the staff who seemed to be carrying out an unexplained order from above. This seemed to be a trmendous inconvenience to just about everyone. It really made no sense at all. Wifi was pretty conistent but occasionally weak. And the bed was comfortable. In all, I'd say that this is closer to a 3-star than a 4-star hotel. It was not horrible, especially given the affordabel price, but next time I'll opt for someplace nicer.
"Good location, pleasent room.."
Positive: Good location, 5 min to Piazza Navora, 15 to The Vatican. Nice rooms, do look like the photos on booking.com. Good cleaning and ok breakfast. Negative: When we came back late at night our air condition didn't work and we couldn't turn the light of in the room, the night portier tried to resolve the problem but with no luck and we were left to sleep with the lights on in a warm room wich was rather anoying. A nice gesture would be to give a refound for that night but all we recived were an excuse. The day after they fixed the light and they gave us an air condition to put in the room so the rest of the stay were pleasent enough. If you booked throug booking.com you can see pictures of the terrace, wich looks like they have a bar and you will be able to grab something to eat, well they dont so bare that in minde if you after a place where you can relax with a coctail on the roof after a long day out. Over all it was worth the money, well if the first night doesnt count :) Love Rome and will return but we will find somewhere else to stay next time.
Nice hotel in the middle of old Rome. Nice breakfast and breakfast room. Our room was located on the third floor and their elevator was out of order (we were there in the beginning of April). The receptionist offered to have our luggage brought to our room. Note: the rooftop bar does not open before May.
Lovely location and easy to get to all the sights. Never more than 15 minutes walk away. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Only issue was a broken lift and we were on the top floor so getting to and from the room was a real pain. Yes we were offered a different room but we wanted the terrace and jaccuzi that went with the room we chose. Anyone with difficulty walking woukd not have managed as it was 85 steep steps to the top. Realistically should have been offered a discount on the room cost.
"A great location in the heart of the historic center !!"
My spouse and I spent three nights at the end of February in this hotel. It has been the second time for me to stay there, the first time was on occasion of a business trip in November. The staff is very competent, extremely friendly and the rooms have their own charming style with new and old compared. The hotel is ideally situated to minutes away from Piazza Navone and also in walking distance to the Vatican and other famous historic sites. The only minus, why I did not afford an excellent rating is the very nearby discotheque, where people are partying also outside on the street throughout the whole night, in particular on Friday and Saturday night of course, which makes it difficult to sleep. The restaurant recommendations we got from the hotel were great and led to new acquaintances and truly memorable evenings during our rather short stay.
