"Really good. A pleasant surprise"
I must hand it to spanish hotel chains. They mastered the art to build pleasant 4* properties with nice and functional rooms at usually very acceptable rates. The Riu Plaza was my first foray to the Riu Brand. The Hotel is close to Wittenbergplatz with the KadeWe, and north of Schöneberg, a nice residential area with good restaurants. The rooms are adequately sized and well designed so they feel more spacious.During one stay I was impressed with the bathroom which was facing the outside, so you can get dayilight in and peek out of the window while brushing your teeth. On other occasions I had rooms with the bathroom facing inside. They have glass borders, which can be "dimmed" for more privacy. The Riu Plaza claims the breakfast is the largest in town. In terms of Square Meters this may be, but I would not get too excited. The spread is ok, but not overwhelming. The bread is actually underwhelming. I think 18 Euros is actually too much for this breakfast. Back to the rooms. Beds are very comfortable. Internet is very good. Staff is friendly and helpful. Overall a clear recommendation from my side.
"Very Helpful Reception Staff and Ideally Situated"
Husband and I stayed for 3 nights commencing Thursday 11th May. I had emailed the hotel before our arrival and told them that this was a surprise slightly belated 70th birthday trip for my husband as he had said that if we ever went to Berlin he would like to stay at the Riu as we have visited many of their hotels in the past and are Riu Club members. We arrived too early for normal check-in and were told our room was not ready which we fully understood and were quite prepared to leave our luggage and go off for the afternoon. We were told we had been given an upgrade but then the lovely supervisor lady said she would upgrade us even further and that we could have the room immediately. We were given a suite on the 16th floor which was wonderful with a great view of the city. I feel really bad because I have managed to throw away the piece of paper I had with this lady’s name on and I can’t praise her enough for all her help during our stay at the hotel. All I know she has a young son and speaks many languages – if the hotel/Riu read this report I hope they know who she is. All the reception staff we had dealings with were very friendly and helpful. The suite was very modern with 2 televisions – not really much use to us as only a couple of English channels!, We had a very comfortable kingzise bed; the sofa in the lounge area again being very comfortable. The bathroom area was open plan with a double sink and a large shower cubicle with excellent rain shower. This open plan configuration seems to be where Riu are going; the only suggestion I would make is perhaps the glass around the shower cubicle should not be clear but with some sort of pattern on it. Some people might not like being seen in the shower! There were 2 separate toilets. There was a small fridge, kettle, cups etc. We weren’t sure if you could get more coffee, sugar, etc and as we had taken our own with us did not bother to enquire about asking for more. As we were fairly tired after the travelling and walking round Berlin on the first afternoon we decided that as the restaurant prices did not look too exorbitant we would have dinner in the hotel. There were not many people in the restaurant and the food we had was very good. However we did have a problem when we got the bill with regard to the wine we had. I am not going to go into what happened in detail because after I explained what had happened to reception was told the matter would be referred to the Supervisor and Manager the following day. This was indeed done and we were embarrassed as to how this was remedied by the hotel not letting us pay for our meal or wine. The hotel went over and above what we had wanted so extremely good customer service. Thank you again. We had breakfast every morning and even though it is 18 Euros it was very comprehensive, with as many fruit juices, tea or coffee as you wanted and had something for every nationality. We’ve paid a lot more than that in a good hotel in London. This certainly set us up for the morning's sightseeing. As many other tripadvisors have said the hotel is ideally situated for the U-bahn and there are a good choice of restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. It was also very easy to get from Schonefeld Airport, with the hotel giving us good advice with regard to what train and bus to get. After our first initial struggle with the ticket machine this proved to be very simple afterwards. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Berlin and actually did not get to do everything we had intended to, so there may be another trip in the future. If we do ever return we certainly would not hesitate to stay at the Riu.
"Modern ,clean hotel in a great location"
Very clean , good sized , modern hotel located in " europa centre" . Close to all public transports, shops , cafe' & restaurants. Polite staff . Very comfortable to stay in . I would stay again in these group hotels in the other part of the world. Highly recommended +++
The hotel is very nice, modern, with great views of the city from the upper floor rooms. The staff is nice and accommodating. Cleaning crew is great. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the room was a bit cold. I was visiting for the may vacations, the weather outside got unexpectedly chilly but they already turned their heating off. The AC doesn't do heating so I was left with floor heating in the bathroom. At the end, since they didn't have it, I just bought a heater. Tip for future travelers: now they have a heater.
