The Rocabella is a nice hotel that has some great attributes but lets itself down on the attention to detail for a hotel of this class. We booked a room with an outdoor Jacuzzi which we wanted, when we checked in to the room we unpacked and after a short while we could smell damp in the room, the sheets on the bed also had a damp feel. We reported this to reception who said there were no other rooms available as the hotel was full, they indicated that it was the air conditioning that was the problem and they would alter the setting and change the sheets. Having stopped in other hotels with air conditioning this was something new to me! We stopped in the room and purchased an air freshener to mask the whiff of the damp. The bathroom was large and had a whirlpool bath and walk in shower. The shower are needed an intensive clean as it looked like mould was in the grout between the tiles and the bottom of the bath had black sealant in a red bath' ( Photo's of issues) The breakfast selection was good but they run out of bananas on a daily basis and don't appear to order even though we asked for just one each day. The hotel lacked atmosphere , the cocktail bar was very quiet and had list or menu of what cocktails were available or the prices The location for other restaurants or bars is not so good, about a 1k walk along a path up a very steep hill that is mostly unlit so after dark it needs a sure footed walk home with the mobile phone light to guide you. The positives are the staff they were very good and would offer help when required. The shuttle service was free to Thira and chargeable for other trips which was no problem. We used them on a regular basis and the guys that do the shuttle work were excellent. Also the views of the caldera over to Oia were stunning, we had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and the sunset was unforgettable. As indicated earlier, in my onion the attention to detail would improve the hotel
"Loved this place and my toddler did too"
I booked this hotel based on reviews, but I also spent a long time trying to find a place in Santorini that was going to be safe for my 21 months boy, without compromising on quality. I am so glad I booked the Rocabella! We were in a superior room and we could fit the baby cot in - which by the way was a 'real' wooden cot, not a portacot. They were great at assisting with all my questions at booking time and making sure they gave us a safe room. We were in room 127 and I highly recommend it if you travel with a child. Some of the bigger rooms with spas are amazing, but they wouldn't have been safe for us. Our room had a nice big balcony overlooking the Caldera with beautiful sunset view. If you book a room without full Caldera view though, there are plenty of common areas (of which 4 pool areas) where you can sit and watch the sunset. The resort was fully booked, but it's so big you never feel crowded. I found everyone very nice and helpful and we used a babysitter from an external agency that they arranged, and she was very nice and professional. Food at the restaurant was great, and they had a free shuttle to/from Fira. The girls were also helpful with tips for our day. Loved this place
We stayed here for three days and it was almost bliss. There were two pools, more than enough room for the small amount of rooms. The grounds are beautiful as well. While I chose this one because it actually had a gym (though cramped and hot - go early as possible!), everything else was great. The breakfast buffet every morning had everything you need. Our room was an upgrade, but because it was on the bottom floor, it was musty and our clothes didn't smell the best. It wasn't enough to complain about it though...after all you are right over the water. We talked to the couple next to us and they actually were moved to a higher level because of the smell. You might want to request a higher up room. But they were beautiful inside and very large. Location - The location is the only downside. It's pretty far from the main cities on Santorini. You will need to rent a car. You can hike it, but it's a long hike! But a place like this in Fira or Oia would be 2-3x the price per night. TIP - Now if you don't want to spend a ton of the food here, head out of the resort, turn right and there is a great little restaurant about 5 minutes walk. It's cheap eats for sure. Our experience was great, especially after a group of 6 20-somethings were being pretty obnoxious the first day we were there. Ruined the first day by the pool, but thankfully they were gone the day after. Overall I would recommend it.
"What can you say"
First of all we want to thank all the staff for everything. It was one life experience. the room was fantastic. It was everything that the pictures indicated -- wonderful views, spotlessly clean, well apportioned, and quiet in the evening. The hotel is absolutely amazing.
"Better than the pictures A+"
Rocabella is spectacular ! It is a resort, more than a hotel and Ideal Location, luxury accommodations, and excellent guest service. We had a fantastic time at Rocabella and highly recommend for those who prefer a total package resort experience. Special Thank You to Maria, Katerina, and Yiannis! Irena & Michael
