"Like a star"
I spent one night in Le Royal while visiting Normandy. In this hotel you can feel the old times charm, imagine the movie stars coming and going.. very cosy.. however I would say that a refurbishement of the building would be a good idea; it was quite old and used, but maybe that gives the charm' Our room was on the 6th floor, the view was nice (on the building's side with a view on the beach and the sea as well as the town). The TV was quite small in proportion to the room size, no kettle to heat water to have a coffee or tea in the room). Used the sauna which did not have the "kiuas" on which you throw the water (!!) but the temperature was ok (around 85°). The staff was wonderful and very helpful. The breakfast was good with a lot of choice though I think there is a lack of space as the tables were really close to each other.
Visited here for a week with my husband. The place is old and just oozes with the history of all the rich and famous that have stayed here; however it has been well kept up and is up to date as far as amenities and things you would need and expect in a modern hotel. Rooms have flat screen tv's, Nespresso coffee makers and instant electric hot water kettles. We were in a room (not a suite) and had two separate closets, one with drawers and shelves in it, a separate chest of drawers, a large desk, a very comfy sofa and another piece of furniture that contained the mini bar and a pull out drawer on the top that could be used for any number of things. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was large and clean with separate shower and tub and large double sink vanity with lots of shelved storage room beneath. Turndown service at night. A bit on the pricey side, but the location is great, 5 min walk to beach and channel views from one side of the hotel. 10 minutes or less walk to 30 or so restaurants. Service is as good as one would expect in a place like this. My only negative is there is no really good lighting in the hotel room itself. Lighting is very dim except for the foyer and the bathroom. Hard to read a real book or newspaper unless you had a little book light or something. If you have a tablet or nook, etc, there is no problem. Only meals eaten were breakfast and a group dinner on our first night. Typical hotel food, adequate but nothing to write home about (or take pictures of!). As is often the case at hotels, the desserts were better than the real food. The prices in the restaurant were high and you can get better tasting food at many of the restaurants in town for less money.
"Can only imagine how much fun this hotel could be at the hight of summer"
Very efficient check in (one of the best I've ever experienced for a trade show involving multiple delegates) large and comfy room (though I was put off by the lack of stand up shower). Super meals and very approachable warm and friendly staff. Very impressed
We loved everything about this hotel. We have stayed there a several times. The rooms are very nicely decorated and very spacious. The breakfast is very good. The staff are very friendly and very professional
"The Belle Epoque updated"
We wanted somewhere special to celebrate New Year with friends who were en route from the UK to Spain. Deauville ticked all the location boxes and Le Royal all those for a hotel. It's costly but it's also huge value for money. From the moment you arrive to the second you leave you are treated like royalty or a film star - you choose. The breakfast buffet takes that phrase beyond anything you could imagine. The New Year's Eve Dinner was fantastic and the live music a real joy. We've started saving our pennies for another visit.
