"Location, charm, and courteous staff,"
We got a great deal for a trip to Berlin from the United States and the Savoy Hotel was part of the deal. We were there for a week and found the staff to be very courteous and responsive to all requests. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and the room was spacious for such a good location near the Kufurstendamm. We ate breakfast there twice and the big buffet is lovely if you want to stock up on food before a big day of sight-seeing. While it did not bother us much, being on the front of the hotel meant that we heard the S-Bahn late into the night and early in the morning, sometimes when the windows were closed. During our visit we didn't need to leave the window open to sleep comfortably but I am pretty sure I wouldn't want to have to do so if the temperatures turn warm in the summer. Our room was in need of some paint and some new upholstered furniture - the walls around light switches were pretty dirty. Looking at other pictures, it seems that our room and bathroom may not have been updated as recently as others but in the end it was all acceptable, again for the great deal we got for the entire trip. The desk clerk was extremely apologetic when I brought these situations to her attention as we checked out of the hotel on our last day. The location, though, is quite good with tons of charming restaurants in the neighborhood, proximity to bus and subway stops, etc.
We stayed in Savoy for three nights while in Berlin and it was a very good choice. Located in West Berlin, from Tegel Airport is a 20min taxi ride and from there to Schoneberg Airport you can catch a direct train from Zoo Station and it takes about 45 min. It is not exactly in the center of Berlin, but you have many U-bahn stations nearby or you can even walk to Brandemburg Gates (around 1 hour or so). Area is perfectly safe at night and around there are coffee shops, restaurants, a supermarket and nice shops - only 3 min walking to Kurfurstendamm, one of the best shopping streets. The hotel is "old school", it has a classical (but with good taste) decoration in the common areas as well as in the rooms. Room was big enough, big windows and a plus was the heated floor in the bathroom. All was perfectly clean and there is also a complimentary bottle of water daily (but the tap water is safe to drink, too). Fast WiFi. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, as we found it a little overpriced - instead we ate in a small coffeeshop just around the corner and their food was delicious. I recommend this hotel if you don't want to spend too much money on accomodation, but you still want a nice and comfortable place to stay.
"Lovely historic hotel in great city "
We loved this hotel .. Great atmosphere in the cigar bar and we had a lovely spacious room and modern bathroom. Nice walk in wardrobe area too. We found it very easy to navigate across the city using the excellent bus and metro service but also liked the area near the hotel. Lovely boulevards with beautiful buildings and great breakfast places a short walk away. Recommend acquiring a travel pass at the airport tourist office which facilitates using the buses and metro without needing to find cash and buy tickets and gives discounted entry to many museums.
"Lovely Berlin old style stay"
Loved the sort of elegantly old fashioned feel to this hotel. Our Greta Garbo room made me smile for hours. We were there for a wedding and I have to say the service and food was excellent. It was lovely to see the crimson colours in the dining room as many hotels I stay in are so beige/ white and clinical.
"Absolutely adored it!"
SO charming, fabulous feel and vibe, the canopy bed was divine, the vegan snacks on the pillows were so thoughtful, the cappucino maker was fabulous, the history of this hotel is amazing. Just absolutely loved it.
