"A must do for New Year"
Without regrets, in order to get the room we wanted for New Year's Eve we booked and paid for the minimum 4 night stay a whole year in advance and then extended this initial stay by a further 2 nights . We also returned to the hotel at the end of January 2017 for a final 2 nights. On our first stay, we booked a premier corner room to get the view of the harbour bridge and opera house. This was incredible! In the quiet calm of the room, I felt the New Year fireworks had been put on specially for us! This room was spacious, well appointed and excellently maintained twice a day. On our 2nd visit we had a room overlooking Darling Harbour which was absolutely fine. Nothing special or memorable. All the staff we encountered were courteous and very helpful. There were however some downsides. The breakfast area seemed to be very small and therefore crowded, both from the number of tables and the ease of accessing the various counters. From my recollection the range of food was quite limited for non meat eaters and those that are gluten free, so after the initial 4 nights when breakfast was included, we opted to go out for breakfast. We did not dine in the hotel at all but did have a fantastic seafood extravaganza delivered to our room on NYE. We also sampled the Altitude bar one evening but were underwhelmed so did not feel the need to repeat the experience. There is a very small indoor swimming pool with a handful of outside lounging spaces and my feeling is that this facility is totally inadequate for a hotel of this size. However it seemed to fit with the style of Australian hotels generally. Very few city hotels offer outdoor pools. Would I recommend this hotel' There was nothing wrong with it but it didn't wow me.
"Very Good Hotel"
This place deserves its 5 stars. The good: 1) Large rooms with good views. 2) Beds super comfortable. 3) Bathrooms large and have bath. 4) Breakfast very good with wide variety. 5) Check in/out faultless. 6) Good gym, good sauna, ok pool. 7) Good concierge/door person. 8) Taxi's available immediately out the door. 9) Free and fast wifi. 10) Close to the Rocks & Northern CBD. The bad: 1) Expensive spa with massages double the normal Sydney price. They also need to be booked in advance. 2) Small tables and closely packed at breakfast. 3) Crowded lifts & not enough of them.
Lovely hotel. Beautiful area. Basic rooms are more than basic. All have good views. Close to the bridge and opera house. Excellent areas for walks. Plenty of restaurant options close. Train station also nearby.
"not a 5 star hotel"
We checked in at 10 am and had to wait for the normal check in time at 2 pm, but was given the room at almost 4 pm. Staffs hard sell, always having to pay more if change room to high floors or different view. When calling for service in room, it took almost 3 -4 minutes for someone to pick up the phone. Very understaffed. When check out, bell boy had to be reminded 2 times and took almost 15 minutes .
"Awesome Hotel - great views and location "
This is a five star hotel all the way. Amazing views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour. Room service was brilliant - fresh supplies daily and beds made. The BLU 36 bar on the top floor has nice cocktails. Can't say enough about how great this hotel is.
