We are from Sydney and love to treat ourselves to a night in town and enjoy being a tourist in our hometown. Always wanted to stay here and chose an executive room overlooking Darling harbour. We enjoyed the sunset view and looking west to the Blue Mountains. Check in was quick and pleasant. Loved our corner room and loved how not only the bed was very comfortable but it was far from the room door. Finally, a hotel where you don’t hear doors slam. The room was spotless, loved the shower, seperate bath and L’occitane products. We asked for a top sheet and our request was done promptly. We chose not to have breakfast for $42 as we thought that price was too steep. The size and selection of equipment in the gym were excellent. One sour note, when we were exploring the pool, you have to walk through the spa, the woman on the computer didn’t look up, too busy typing, so we kept walking, then she said with tone looking down her nose at us “are you staying here'” like we’d just walked off the street. Put me off having a spa treatment. Didn’t put me off wanting to return, next time a longer stay as we had such a good nights sleep and a great location for the Rocks.
"Nice hotel, but tired decor"
Nice place, but at the price, there are a few issues 1) the decor is tired, and the place needs a cut and polish. Perfectly acceptable, but not nearly good enough to demand a return visit 2) the lethargy of the concierge team. Nice, helpful, but not on top of activity. You arrive after a long flight, not busy at the front door, and yet no one there to help with bags. Not just once but repeatedly during the time we (and our friends) were there. Same thing this morning on departure 3) the roof top bar. Great views, and should be a highlight of Sydney, but when you are staying at the hotel, and paying for a premium room, I have no interest at all in arriving at the bar to be told that there is a queue and we needed to wait a considerable time to be granted entry. We had organised to meet overseas visitors (also guests in the hotel) there prior to dinner, but were left standing in a crowd. Just not good enough. There are lots of good options in Sydney. ShangriLa is in a nice position and I enjoyed my stay, but just cant see myself bothering to return
quick check in and beautifull room with view of opera house and cruise ships a quick walk to main attractions and ferries and bridge climb room itself was beautifull was hoping to get a higher floor but was put on 8th still nice views
"Top hotel and great views"
Fantastic views of harbour and opera house and very spacious room to work from. Very close to city and harbour and great bars nearby. Expensive but you feel like you are getting what you pay for. Would stay here again.
"Horizon Club staff make this 5 star"
We stayed 10 nights. This is a busy hotel with a mix of guests on business and tourists. We had a suite and access to the Horizon lounge. Majority of staff in the Horizon Club are first class. Vicki is exceptional as is Oscar who is in charge. The view from our room and the Horizon Club was fantastic. Our room was excellent but beware there is a lot of construction going on in Sydney for the new light railway so choose your hotel and room carefully. This work goes on throughout the night ! Shangri La has an excellent location but if you want something smaller and more boutique but in not such a good location we would go for The Langham.
