"Close to perfection"
Booked a Horizon suite for a family birthday celebration. Got a refurbished suite with excellent views across the harbour. Very warm welcome at the Horizon lounge on the 30th floor. Again, with jaw-dropping views. Massive bathroom with a corner tub and a sitting area. The lobby downstairs is showing its age, but we conducted most of the business in the lounge so didn't affect us that much. Would definitely return.
"Excellent location and views"
Stayed for four nights in room with fantastic view of opera house and harbor. Great location near the rocks, ferry wharf and opera house and not far from downtown shopping. Great breakfast buffet, nicely finished rooms and very good and friendly staff. Only negative is that the lift service can be very slow at peak times
We really enjoyed our stay at the Shangri-La. We never tired of taking in the amazing view of Sydney Opera House from our room. The staff were all really friendly & helpful & brought us free prosecco & cookies on New Years Eve! The hotel is in a great location - easy walking distance from the harbour & Darling Harbour which we loved. So much going on & lovely places to eat & drink. There's a great pub called The Glenmore with a lovely rooftop bar just a couple of minutes walk down towards the bridge. We only ate breakfast once in the hotel, which was great - plenty of choice. We'd definitely stay here again if we're lucky enough to go back to Sydney.
"Perfect anniversary hotel"
We visited for our 1st wedding anniversary on the 4th for two nights. I booked online and requested a booking at the restaurant, and this was confirmed within 24 hours via email and phone. We arrived and were greeted, the lady that checked us in regretfully told us our room wasn’t ready; was no issue we asked them to take care of our bags and headed to their bar for some complimentary drinks and explore the city. We came back about an hour later to pick up our key and head to our room. The wonderful staff had upgraded up to the 34th floor we arrived to our room to find champagne, chocolates, bottled water and fresh fruit! Since we had a late booking for dinner we decided to have pre dinner drinks at the horizon club. It was busy but the staff were efficient, friendly and professional. Light snacks and canapés were plentiful and the bar was clean and tidy. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated at a window looking over the Harbour Bridge and opera house. We shared Scollops for entree, lamb and beef for main. I cannot emphasize how wonderful the staff and the food exceeded our expectations. Our second night we didn’t eat at the hotel but did order room service for dessert which was exceptional. Overall we can’t fault anything with the staff or hotel. We felt like royalty and was a perfect anniversary. Highly recommend.
I stayed at the Shangri-la for 2 nights for work. I was given a corner room which had a small lounge room attached to a small hallway to the main bedroom. The main bedroom itself was quite large as you would expect in a 5 star hotel. The view wasn't too bad - not as good as if the room was facing the harbour but I was able to see the opera house on an angle. The bathroom is getting a bit dated but was of a decent size. Staff were polite and courteous. Breakfast and lunch in the restaurant on the first floor was decent although there weren't as many options (eg. Seafood section, different cuisines such as Japanese, Thai etc...) as other 5 star hotels I have stayed at (smaller meal area). The gym had free weights with a bench rack, cardio equipment such as bikes and treadmills and hydraulic machines. It was a decent size. There is an indoor pool as well on the next floor. There were an extra 300 odd guests there for a conference and 6 lifts...several of which weren't working. I did hear of one or two of them also breaking down during my stay as they were too full/heavy. I had to wait on average 10-15 min to catch a lift either up or down and often had to wait for the next one as they were all full. All of my lift conversations were with other guests commiserating on how long a wait they had and how long the trip was as we were stopping on every floor to pick up more people who had been waiting ages. Overall it was a nice hotel although rooms are starting to get a bit dated. However lack of functioning lifts and the time to get to and from your room was a negative of my (and I suspect quite a lot of other guests) stay.
