"Great location, nice hotel, unreliable electricity"
The Sheraton Grand is sitting on a Rocky outcrop right on the sea. It looks fabulous and the views from the room and dining/pool areas are commanding. But look behind you for a glimpse of the favela across the road. (Actually one of the nicer ones, if such a thing can be said.) As Rio is host to numerous great restaurants, I have only had my breakfast here. The buffet is descend, what you would expect from a hotel like this. The access road is prone to traffic jams, as is the rest of the city. But fear not, it's only a 20 (very scenic) walk to Ipanema beach. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, the higher up, the better the views. The only downside I have found so far are the occasional power outages. No fun if you are stuck in an elevator. (This is a common Rio problem, expect outages anywhere, especially when there are thunderstorms around.)
"Great Holiday with the Kids at the Sheraton"
I've been to Rio a couple of times but this was the first time with the kids and the first time staying at the Sheraton Grand Rio. The main reasons for choosing the Sheraton was the large swimming pool and relatively private beach. The kids loved the pool and kept them busy for a few hours each day. The breakfast was great along with the Churrascaria. We used the free shuttle bus each day to get to Ipanema & Copacabana beaches and the Rio Sul Shopping Centre. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and the suite we had was just right for a family of 5. We'll be back next year!!
"Definitely worth staying - please read review for details "
Stayed in Sheraton Grand in November 2017 when i visited Rio for a business trip. Location - it’s located right near Leblon beach. Ipanema can be reached in approx 10 mins and Copacabana in 15 mins with normal traffic. Views - most of the rooms present a lovely full / partial view of the waters and mountains. Rooms - well kept, spacious rooms with all basic amenities like King size bed, HD TV, study table, alarm with FM radio and speaker that can be connected to IPhone, Iron board, coffee maker, refrigerator, hair dryer and a decent sized wardrobe. All wash rooms have bath tubs and other required utilities. Service - top notch service that one expects from Sheraton. Housekeeping staff was very cordial and provide prompt service. Laundry and dry cleaning rates are pricey. Dining - great restaurant especially if you are a meat lover (like my colleagues). Even for vegetarians (like me), they have good delicacies. The restaurant is open round the clock. However, the menu varies slightly depending on time of the day. Gym / pool / recreation facilities - worth visiting atleast once during your stay. A few steps from the Pool take you to the beautiful beach. Price - paid around £110 / night which is at the Lower end of what you can get online. Feel it was well worth it for the service and facilities. Try looking for deals online or use websites like Trivago.com for best prices. Improvement suggestion - the only drawback is the Free room WiFi that is as unreliable as the current US president. For faster services, you are asked to pay 26 reais. Thought a name like Sheraton by default would offer great free internet connectivity. Hope you find Thai review useful. Wishing you a wonderful time in Rio. Cheers !
"Location is off the beaten path, but a great view and nice facilities"
This is a very nice hotel and the staff is quite nice. Plan some extra time for checkout. Of all the hotels I stay at this one has the slowest checkout process I have seen and has consistently been the slowest for years. Great pool, in fact two pools. Nice tennis courts. They can arrange for tours anywhere. The martini bars serves great drinks and a great staff. Usually the open air restaurant over looking the pool has decent food. The staff is also very attentive. I had a pepperoni pizza and it was the worse pizza I have ever had. It was worse than out of a box out of your freezer at home. Maybe just an off night. You are right on the water and should ask for an ocean view. Higher level is good as there are sometimes lots of local people on the beach below. The gym is pretty well stocked. I suggest if you want to go to Ipanema or Copacabana or any location, day or night have the hotel setup the transportation. DON't walk there! Like any big city you have to be careful. Although I have walked the half mile or so to these locations, things have changed and people have been robbed on this short, but desolate stretch of road. Be smart and you will have a great time at this hotel. We went up to Christ the Redeemer Statue and the view is great. We road up on the funicular and it was all setup by the hotel. Have fun!!!!!!!
My husband and I stayed here for 6 days, and it was terrific. Rooms were big bed and pillows comfy, bathroom had everything shampoo and conditioner shower gel, free water bottles everyday and hairdryer. Free WiFi and plenty of restaurants in the complex. The French restaurant is a must also the Dry Martini Bar. Highly recommend. If you like walking it is a 10min walk to Impanena Beach.
