"Great place to stay, everything first class!"
Amazing place to stay with everything being first class. However it is not cheap. This is not a knock on shutters just setting proper expectations that you will get first class service but you will pay. Pool is amazing, free bikes to ride the peer and right on the beach.
"Bad experience before I even arrive."
I booked my room through American Express Fine Hotels & Resort. It was after I booked that I realized I got a king bed. I called the hotel to change to a double bed because we are coming as a family with two young children. I told reservation that we will be celebrating our son birthday. After she put my on hold twice, I was informed that my room does not allow accommodation for 4 and she asked if I would like to book an extra room. My room is "not allow" for a rollaway bed. I would be charge for one night due to the 3 days cancellation policy if I cancel my reservation now. It was then that I realized talking to her would completely ruin my trip before I even arrive. She obviously did not use her mind because I told her I am coming with my husband and two young children. Who would she expect me to put in the additional room'' I ended the conversation and called American Express who kindly called back and resolved our situation with a downgrade to a Studio non-view room that allows accommodation for four. It solves our accommodation problem but that is not how I like to start our vacation. I heard great things about Shutters on the Beach and willing to pay the price for service. I really hope my experience will be better once I get there.
"Luxurious and fun"
We came for a somewhat stressful event and the hotel and our experience there eased our anticipated stress. The setting was lovely, on a wide beautiful beach, the hotel is gorgeous in an understated way and the staff was excellent. Can't say enough good thugs about our experience there.
"Iconic American Beach Hotel with Mediocre Food and Service"
I travelled with my wife and our two girls aged 11 and 14. Upon check in we were upgraded to a Pacific view suite and this made a huge difference. The suite had stupendous beach and sea views and it was also nicely decorated. The only negative was the lack of two showers and that the one shower was very small. The bathrooms should be redone to place the suite in the international top league. I suspect we would not have been happy in one of the rooms as they looked to be rather small. The hotel is very attractive with it´s American beach design and we enjoyed the decor. We also enjoyed breakfast in Coast - very fresh design and excellent food and service. Restaurant One Pico was another matter however. Very disappointing with poor service and almost inedible food. It seems as if fine cuisine is just not happening in the US. the hotel has a small pool and deck where they had squeezed in to many sun beds. All round a good Beach Hotel - but a very disappointing restaurant. Also service levels throughout was well under what you would find in both Asia and Europe. And the price tag is very high. I am really not sure if the cost compares to what you get.
We absolutely loved this hotel. We had a beautiful room overlooking the ocean on the 7th floor, we were in heaven. Everything about this hotel was done to perfection. They have a lovely deck where food and drinks are served, we went as a couple and then the next day with friends. Great food and drink! The staff is very friendly! Walking distance to the Pier and many fabulous restaurants. We felt right at home and can't wait to go back.
