Conveniently anchored in the city center in London’s West End on the corner of Pall Mall and Waterloo Place, just a quick stroll from Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the shops of Regent Street, Piccadilly and Oxford Street, as well as museums and theaters.
Beautiful hotel with stunning decor and just a 2 or 3 minute walk from Piccadilly Circus underground. We had a delightful room on the 6th floor which was on the back of the building so there was no traffic noise whatsoever. We slept very soundly indeed! The bed was very comfortable. The pillows were as light as clouds so you really sunk into them. The bathroom was fully stocked with complimentary Hermes toiletries and had a separate bath and shower. The St James Bar was very welcoming. Lovely comfortable low sofa type seating or high backed chairs; whichever takes your fancy. There was an extensive gin range to work your way through (if so desired!) plus a good selection of wines, cocktails and other drinks. The staff were very helpful and knew their products. There are plenty of restaurants close by so you won't need to venture far if popping out for dinner. The National Gallery is not far away either.
"Beautiful hotel, great stay!"
Staffs are friendly, service is wonderful. Afternoon tea with free flow champagne can be pricey lol but we are on holiday, so that was fine. Beef tartare was amazinggggg!!! :) it's a must try. Really enjoyed the stay. Thank you
A faultless experience. Great check in, lovely room and bed sooo comfortable. All pre arrival requests provided. Bar staff and cocktails really good. Cleanliness great. Would recommend and return without a doubt
"Beautiful but stuffy "
My daughter and I hoped the red eye to London last minute. She is 20! We stayed at several different hotels and although this is beautiful it's old and stuffy. The staff was very professional and rooms were okay but just not the place for us. Location is good. The bar was nice but again very old school and not what we were looking for .
"Beautiful facade and 1st class location"
This a return stay to the Sofitel St James and as a 5* hotel in the Sofitel chain it could do better. We booked a four night Thursday - Monday Chic Aperitif stay. We have stayed in the Sofitel Grand in Amsterdam and have compared the two. The location cannot be beaten. It is perfect for the galleries around Trafalgar Square and most landmarks are within a short walk. The reception area is beautiful. Our room wasn't ready on arrival even though we had received an email asking for our ETA. On check in I found the staff a little robotic and seemed to have learned a script as a number of times she gave us incorrect information. IE Breakfast was included which it wasn't. We were offered a welcoming juice which was nice but we didn't partake. As an Accor Platinum Member we were given a room upgrade to a room with a view but it was the roof of the IOD......... The rooms really need an upgrade as they are looking a little worn and shabby esp the bathroom and around the shower. We had to contact housekeeping for more hangers, iron and ironing board. The toiletries are ok. There is complimentary still water in the room. We found the kettle in the wardrobe but the teas / coffees on the hospitality tray are a little boring. Housekeeping was great, the rooms are checked twice a day. It has a nice bar area, quite small for such a large hotel. Drinks are served with nibbles and the staff are friendly. The free welcome drink was a bonus. The bar menu was also good. Guests should remember that an additional 12.5% is added to the bill even in the bar. As we had booked the Chic Aperatif stay this included a cocktail and Amuse Bouche in the Bar, although I don't think a croquette is an Amuse Bouche.... I can't comment on the breakfast as we decided because it was so expensive we wouldn't include it in our stay but there are plenty of places around the hotel to eat. Overall it is a good place to stay but it could be so much better.
