If you like endless construction, debris falling to the ground as you walk to the pool, being woken up everyday at 9am by the mini-bar guy, no hot water and a pool that's closed... then the Sonesta is the place for you. What a crap hole. Almost on a daily basis a new construction project springs up on the property and they do nothing to control the noise. 6am' What better time than to start sanding decks outside. The rooms and windows have no soundproofing, so you get to be up close and personal with the soothing sound of power tools. Oh and if it's a day that there is actually water running in your room, chances are it won't be hot! Total rubbish. No chance of a repeat visit. Consider yourself warned.
"Average Hotel. "
In general the hotel was ok, room was clean and comfy but if you go with your car, most probably won't have an available parking space. Parking spaces are reserved for apartments owners that the Hotel administration offers. Not good for local tourism.
"Great value, attentive service, lovely room"
This is the least expensive resort hotel on the beach, popular with wealthier Columbians, and any kitesurfer reading this will want to stay here rather than at the American chain hotels further down Boquilla. All of the kitesurfing is right next to the hotel beach entrance. We arrived early and, because the Colombians seem to be pretty religious about a 3pm checkin meaning 3pm, they checked our bags and invited us to the pool and handed us a welcome drink. There are two pools and one of them always has some shady places. The breakfast is excellent, strong wifi, and everyone was super friendly and helpful. Sure, the key stopped working a few times and the bank machine broke and took 30 mins to reboot, but let's leave our first world problems where they belong, shall we'
having some pool time and I hope this will continue for a couple of days. There is a hotel and apartments mixes in. It's a great place to stay in cartagena. There are a few 6restaurants on the beach plus a full restaurant and bar. there are not a lot of people and imagine because of the season.
"Great Weekend Away"
I live in Barranquilla, so I was looking for a place to get away for the weekend. My friend and I took a bus that dropped us off in front of the hotel. Someone instantly took our bags as we checked in. They were very welcoming and greeted us with freshly squeezed fruit juice. The bellhop explained the hotel's amenities and even ran down to grab us another room key. We spent most of our days at the pool. The lifeguards were friendly and always flagged down a server for more micheladas once we finished ours. :) While there was construction going on, it didn't wake us up too early. It actually made us get up and start our day! The taxis from the hotel were very fancy (compared to the yellow ones in town) and were able to take us into the city to our exact restaurant every time. We didn't mind the drive and thought 14,000COP was reasonable for their great service! We got a massage in the spa. It wasn't our best massage, but we were definitely relaxed. Overall I really enjoyed our stay!
