"Decent Stay-Worth a Try"
I think this hotel will appeal to persons going on a cruise, (as they cater to that), having to deal with the medical centers close by or coming to town for a baseball game. It is in one corner of the hospital district with easy access off of 95 to 836 to the hotel. They do have limited (free) off street parking and a parking garage for $20.00/day. We were able to leave the car on the street and didn't feel nervous about it. There is security after 5 PM who keeps an eye on things. Just an FYI, we used this hotel as it was close to the trolley to take us to the baseball stadium, which was why we were in town. We had no issues with the front desk staff, breakfast staff, or maids. All were friendly and helpful. What we didn't like was: room was not thoroughly cleaned, the TV was set up for the living area vs. the bedroom area, (difficult to watch TV in bed), we were given a handicap accessible room which made showering difficult, and we had a broken fixture in the shower that caused us to almost scold ourselves trying in vain to adjust the water temp and/or turn it off. We reported this to the front desk and although apologetic, did nothing further. Many hotels will compensate you for such an inconvenience via a reduction on the bill or extra reward points-something. The pillows were not very supportive but the bed was comfortable. Liked having the microwave and frig. as well as the sitting area. Room was spacious.. Air conditioning worked very well as did the free WiFi. The breakfast was a bit better than the basic continental with scrambled eggs, sausage patties, pancakes, plus all the usual items. It did end a bit early at 10AM. There was a simple restaurant for lunch, dinner, and room service, a bar, and a self serve market area for snacks like ice cream. Due to this property being in a city with limited land space, the pool was placed on the front side of the building as "something" to get wet in. It was very small, shallow, but clean, with pool side towels and a few chairs. There were 4 of us in the pool; 2 around the stairs, and us two around the deep end, and that seemed to be enough to maintain a private conversation. If you had small children they would love the pool as it would be big enough for them. The workout room was decent. We took the trolley to and from the stadium. It was a 2 block walk to the nearest stop. You walk under an overpass, turning left at the light and walk down a long block. There is a 7-11 and a couple of other businesses along the way. As you walk further, you are then into medical buildings and government buildings. We did not feel unsafe walking back to the hotel at night-during the day was no issue at all. What was more of an issue was the clientele on this public/free trolley-we had 2 rides going to the stadium that included mental patients out on day passes that were having verbal outbursts. The trolley driver had to ask for assistance from a cop when we got to the stadium to remove the one person. Others on the trolley seemed to be unfazed as this probably happened often enough being close to all the various hospitals including a VA. medical center. Both rides back from the stadium just contained fellow baseball fans heading home. As a recommendation to the hotel, we think they could do more with their own shuttle. Like the one review said they took it to a shopping area. We didn't know that was possible. Why not run one shuttle a day to the baseball stadium' Leave at 5:30pm for the stadium and one return pick up at 10:30pm' There was posted signage that this hotel would be under-going a renovation in 2017. That will be a nice improvement to a very decent hotel. We would stay here again should we be in town for MLB.
"Odd Location, Odd Bathroom but a Decent Pool"
My GPS said "destination on your right" but I could not find any signage to say SpringHill Suites. The place looked like an old, renovated condominium building. Parking area to check-in is limited. A rude customer parked behind me and someone parked behind him. He wanted to leave as I was checking in and came in a demanded I move my car. He came in a second time and threaten me. I asked the front desk clerk where was security and she said they don't have any security until 5pm. During my 2 day stay, the front desk staff was barely friendly. Parking is $17-20 daily and limited on-street parking. My room was on the 4th floor and the bathroom sink configuration was weird. The room had a refrigerator and microwave. We did use the pool and gym - both were decent. Breakfast was standard and the ladies did a fine job keeping the area clean. The location is close to Marlin Park and the trolley station is a few blocks from the hotel.
"Decent Stay for Budget Price"
My family and I stayed here for one night prior to leaving out for our cruise. There were twelve of us in three rooms. When arriving, I checked on the status of all of the rooms since everyone else was flying in that afternoon. I was told that three out of four rooms were paid in full and one room the card had been declined. The agent told me that we could fit everyone in three rooms and she could just cancel the fourth room since we wouldn't need it anyways. After checking with the group I went ahead and did so. I was informed that all that was required at this point was the deposits for the rooms. I paid the deposit for the room I wad staying in ($20 on debit card or $50 cash), received the keycards and went to relax. Later, on checking my account I noticed that the hotel had charged my room $122 instead of $20 as discussed. I went down to ask and found out that the room I was in had not actually been paid for. The staff apologized and then stated that they couldn't really do anything. I paid for a room I was told had already been paid in full. I was really disappointed that they did this as I wasn't booking a room and was staying in someone else's. It worked out in the end as the person who had cancelled their room paid me along with two pother persons to cover staying in the hotel room but they should really be more clear and careful with their charges. When we checked out, I was charged for hotel transportation to the pier that I had not asked for. They took the charge off but it was another headache. They served breakfast and it was small but enough to fill us. The rooms were fine and we had no complaints. The beds were comfortable and the business ctr had a printer even though it was two computers with one not working. This hotel is located near a hospital which is good for people coming for procedures. Don't expect to be able to walk places around it though. It's in a seedy area and doesn't feel very safe. The hotel did offer shuttle to a nearby shopping area that was really nice. The driver was very sweet and friendly and accommodating. I wish I could remember her name!
"Spacious Clean Rooms at the Medical Center"
We showed up for a medical emergency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Had no reservation but got a nice room. Staff was always professional and courteous. The rooms are spacious. We had a sofa, desk, two queen beds, a dresser and min-fridge, microwave and small coffee maker. There's a nice breakfast downstairs. A pool, exercise room and free wi-fi. We bought salads and drinks at a Winn-Dixie groc y store about 7 minutes away. Parking is private garage and $17 per night, make it $20 because of the parking tax.. But it's safer than on the street. It is 5 minutes away from most places in the medical Center so it's perfect if you have business there. There is no valet or bell hop.
My husband and I stayed here while we were in Miami for some baseball games. This hotel is in a great location if you are going to Marlins Park. The stadium is just over a mile away and is technically walkable, if you want to. Or, there is a trolley run by the city that can take you between the two. If you'd rather Uber, it's about $6 from the hotel to the stadium. This was also convenient for downtown and Wynwood neighborhood, each about a $7 Uber ride, depending on exactly where you go. Parking is about $17 per night in the hotel's garage, which is convenient and not a bad price for parking in Miami. The hotel is very nice and very modern. Rooms are spacious and have both a bed and a sitting area, separated by desk. There is a small refrigerator and a microwave. It's all very comfortable, well-decorated, and kept up nicely. I do have one little complaint about the room. It definitely should not keep you from staying at this hotel, but it's something I just thought was weird, and hopefully hotel staff will read this review and do something about it. There are not enough hooks in the bathroom! I believe there was actually only one. So, of course, not a deal breaker and not a huge deal...but you have to expect that at least two people are staying in one room, right' So shouldn't there be AT LEAST two hooks for your towels, not to mention maybe a couple extras in case you use a hand towel as well' I found it odd and just thought I'd mention it, as I said, in case hotel staff reads the review. But again, not a deal breaker and it won't prevent me from staying here again! Breakfast is pretty good, although they stop serving early - 9 or 9:30 (I can't remember exactly, but I thought it was early for a weekend). They have a few hot items each day, as well as everything else you'd expect from a continental breakfast, like pastries, cereal, yogurt, etc.
