"Excellent hotel in the middle of Hamburgs hot-spot"
The Steigenberger hotel is a modern hotel placed very close to the center attractions of Hamburg. The hotel provides 1. class service and accommodation. The hotel is within walking distance og the Habour area, the City Hall, Mönckebergstraße and it's surrounding shopping streets. The hotel is quite close to one of the U-bahn's which at that particular place runs elevated above the street level giving quite a rumble and noise in the area.
"I am walking....yes indeed"
Stayed there for a weekend. Every year we (ex-colleagues) we are meeting in a different location. This year it was Hamburg. I am glad I chose this hotel. Everywhere I wanted to go I could do by walking (except on the water , but that is another story :-) . The Hotel in his central location (U-Bahn ,- S-Bahn to the airport are close by. Nice restaurants around too) , is comfortable, clean, Exceptional friendly staff. Exactly what I was looking for. I fullheartetly an recommend it. Only the water pressure in the shower was tiny little weak , but I could still get clean enough . I did not take the breakfast, but from what I heard from other guest it should be very good and plenty.
"Not five star in any way"
I rarely rate a place terrible but due to the false advertising of this hotel I am forced to. When I booked German friends said I made the right choice, when I got there I found out it was not as described. I stayed with a friend in a Superior Room with canal views (nice view of canal). The beds were hospital beds that were motorized for mobility impaired people. The thin mattress wasn't comfortable and the edges of the bed frame were all weathered. The smell of the hospital/clinic floated down the corridor and our room was one door away from the open door to the hospital. The badly appointed bathroom had broken switches and also emergency nurse buttons...don't accidentally press the wrong button. The room was a decent size and the writing table was adequate. I don't drink coffee but I don't know any true five star hotel that doesn't have basic coffee services in the room. If privacy isn't something you want then the cleaning staff walking into ones room without knocking (twice in one morning) then you are in the right place. The hotel from the outside looks nice and might be centrally located but only good if you are a patient. The hotel should remove the five star rating and maybe advertise 3.5 at most and inform people that they are part of the clinic/hospital (if they deny it then they shouldn't have internal open linked doors).
I don't often review hotels, but feel compelled after I saw a few uncomplimentary reviews. This hotel is very good. Staff were friendly and accommodating in all respects. Good breakfast, comfortable beds, sound proof when the window was closed. The S1 to and from the airport was d minutes away as was the U taking you to the Convention Hall if here for business. Very good Restaurants and pubs an easy walk.
"Perfect location and an amazing breakfast buffet"
We booked a Junior suite for 3 people (2 adults and 1 child). Room is very big and lovely view. Love the décor and very clean. Stuff is very friendly and made us very welcome. Location is perfect next to the Subway and public transit. Also by taxi took Euro10 to get to the harbor and to the train station. Can’t comment on parking as we arrived with the train. We had the breakfast buffet, and the food and services was excellent. The breakfast Buffet was amazing and so much variety of food. Beds are very comfortable and room is very clean. Overall, we loved our stay and will be staying again at this hotel.
