"Retreat from city in natural settig"
Sukantara Cascade Resort surrounds a beautiful cascade of waters, many native plants and trees. All of the staff made us very welcome including our driver, Mr Den who met us at Chiang Mai airport and the next day took us up Doi Inthanon mountain (very scenic and interesting). Our room was comfortable with wall Air conditioning and with King size bed and beautiful polished wood floor. Bath facilities were adjacent and open to the sky which may not appeal to some but we enjoyed the open air shower (private). Also impressive was the landscape and birds. Also commendation to Arie for the excelllent massage at the spa. Very romantic destination away from the busy Chiang Mai city.
"A dream come true"
Staying here kind of feels like living in the "Jungle Book" with the cascade of the water right in front of your door and the beautiful landscape all around. You'll see peacocks roaming around and there is nature everywhere you look. Walking around the water is amazing and exploring the surroundings is really cool, especially if you have spent long periods of time in the city. Of course, the resort itself is very nice. The rooms blend in well and offer a lot of privacy. There are times when you feel like it is your own private place. My wife and I did the romantic Khan Toke and were both blown away. There really isn't anything else like it in Thailand. Also, the Naomi Cakes are the best! Don't miss these wonderful desserts. If you want to explore more of Mae Rim, the hotel is in a great location. Plenty of tourists activities if that is what you're into and quite a few other fun things like hiking and cycling should you prefer to avoid the crowds. If you love nature, you will never be bored here. This place has become one of my favorites in all of Thailand. The surroundings can't be beat, but it is the hard work of the staff that really make it stand out. You feel like family here which makes everything that much more relaxing. I could do on, but honestly, you have to see this place in person.
Firstly the photoshopping of the photos of rooms is unreal. They are nothing like the photos so you are guaranteed to be let down on arrival. The first thing we were literally welcomed with after a 10 hour drive was, 'welcome to Sukantara, it's 7.30pm now and the kitchen will close at 8pm, kab'. We drove 10 hours, we had eaten some motorway food a few hours before. We wanted to relax for a little while before we had dinner. Instead we went very hungry as there was literally no snacks in the room, nothing. The next issue is the dirt. I didn't feel comfortable for one minute. There is dirt everywhere, it's like they never cleaned the room, apart from sheets etc. The corners are filthy, the plugholes scummy, everything is covered in grime and mildew, it's disgusting. We booked the expensive jacuzzi villa as I had seen beautiful pictures of an outdoor jacuzzi pool and thought that's what we would get. We instead were given a dingy room with an old broken jacuzzi in the back room. There was a dripping shower above it and the jets hardly worked. The water was off colour and it smelt bad. We paid an extra load for that luxury, couldn't use it. The location is fantastic, it's breathtakingly beautiful, but the service is terrible and they don't know what clean is here. I leave itching and feeling I wasted a lot of money on something below standard. Considering the cost, it must be purely bad standards which keeps the rooms so filthy. The attention to detail is non existent. See photos of dirt and scum, literally everywhere.. As for closing the kitchen at 8pm at a luxury resort with no food available for miles around, that's absolutely unforgivable and that why you get 1 star. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels allover the world, I have never heard of a kitchen closing at 8pm. Such a shame, I wanted a romantic getaway with my partner, I was going to propose to her over a romantic meal on the terrace overlooking the waterfall. I had spent the whole drive up planning what I would say and how I would do the proposal. I spent months planning for one moment, I never imagined the kitchen would be closed. Terrible experience, can't wait to leave. Shame on you Sukantara.
Spent three days here at this fantastic resort. What a great place to relax and unwind from the real world. Nice accommodations and delicious food. We felt like it was resort camping, with 5 star service in a rustic, magical setting. The entire staff went out of their way to make our stay special, and we especially appreciated the attention and care given to us by A and Dan. They both went above and beyond! We chose the "whisper of paradise" package, and highly recommend it. All the extras it had to offer were well worth it. The available excursions in the area were plentiful and enjoyable, too, from riding elephants, getting up close with tigers and seeing local tribes and markets, to name a few. And be sure to eat a slice of any of A's homemade cakes. The coconut cream was delicious! And the traditional Thai rice porridge for breakfast should not be missed!
"Fairytale magical tented villa on waterfall"
Unforgetable experience, very luxurious and fotogenatic. Great food (not expensive). Tent for only €90 is huge and very romantic with all comfort and huge bathroom. I took at least 50 photos because there is so much beautiful to see. Recepcion can arrange transport. Spa is really good, it has European prices, though. I think best hotel I've ever been.
