"Tranquil, Private Resort--only one other family!"
We are across the river in one of the tent villas. What fun to go across an Indiana Jones-style bridge over the river to get to our tent. Very nicely done inside, except for the rickety wooden floors, but no problems on hygiene. Plenty of power plugs and the aircon works great, as this is the hot time of year. The quaint state of maintenance at the resort overall reflects how hard it is to keep wood intact in a tropical environment. But they're trying. We've looked at the various reviews for Sukantara, both positive and negative, and most are relevant; this is a polarizing place. If you come prepared for rustic beauty and tranquility, you will be happy. If you are looking for glamour, which apparently some reviewers were, look elsewhere. The comments that the website uses heavily Photoshopped pictures are well founded. We, and another family down the river here are the only guests, and it is the end of the dry season so the cascades are running but not vigorously. But, it is really tranquil. The loudest noises are the crickets (which can sound like jackhammers at dawn), the peacocks, and the stream. I had the most relaxing nap by the (very small) pool this afternoon--I haven't been so relaxed in months. The food is very well done and presented, a little on the high side as we are a captive audience. Advice: bring libations to enjoy in your room. Overall, a good choice for us for two nights @ $105 per night while we did due diligence on the Prem School. I am baffled at the reviews that indicated they paid three times as much.
For the month of march it seems that the foliage is dry ... but the waterfall was still flowing . We were well taken care of. Infact the owner greeted us and his daughter made us feel welcome .We were 3 couples and each had our own bungalow. The restaurant food was more than I expected ( I love Thai food) we had day trips planned the drivers pick you up and drop off . They also went out of their way to make breakfast earlier since we had an early flight . We chose this place since it's away from all the city noise . Very secluded . Our personal driver really took care of us from taking us to eating local places , shopping airport .
Very beautiful spa and hotel/restaurant. The location is truly spectacular and well worth a visit. Great place to visit on a day trip out of Chiang Mai. Good place to have lunch. Not sure I would wish to stay overnight as presumably the view disappears with the daylight. But it could be VERY romantic.
"Quiet, peaceful and rustic. Its simplicity appeals. The calming cascades are lovely to be next to."
Lovely people. The owner is warm and outgoing. Mostly dressed like a cowboy and fond of fancy cars. The resort need maintenance though. The open air toilets/showers stink. Limited choice in food. No toiletries provided except for shampoo and conditioner, not even soap. Back to nature if you would but for us four nights were quite enough. Though we would not mind repeating our visit after some upkeep is carried out. All in all, an exceptional place to stay
"Poor maintenance and cleaning "
Kind staff and gorgeous location, but very poor maintenance and cleaning. Until some comprehensive renovations and corrective measures, we do not recommend for a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, a missed opportunity.
