"Good location and large rooms"
The hotel is located in a great spot to walk to The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. There is also an Urban Adventures Great Wall Tour that departs from this hotel. The rooms are clean and spacious with good amenities. The buffet breakfast also has a great variety and there is a gym in the basement. Grab a map from the front desk as language barriers can be difficult when wandering the streets.
"Would have been 4 stars except for the truly terrible breakfast "
It's a decent hotel in Wanfujing, close to several places. Rooms are clean and fairly spacious. Staff speaks relatively decent English. The only bad thing is the breakfast which is absolutely horrific. I've been to backpackers which serve better breakfast.
"An Excellent Hotel in Beijing"
Hotel Sun World The hotel is located in Doncheng district and not far from Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. The shopping area of Wangfujing is only a few minutes’ walk. I stayed in the hotel for three nights. The air conditioned room had a king’s bed and was spacious and comfortable. The room was well lit with room lights, a table lamp and a floor lamp which enabled me to read easily in bed in spite of my poor eye sight. The toilet is in western style, has a walk in shower with excellent toiletries. Being in a higher floor it was quiet and I had a good sleep. The lobby is spacious and the staff in the reception speaks English. Foreign currency can be changed at the reception from 9am to 9pm for the hotel guests. The ground floor restaurant where breakfast is served looks out to the street. The buffet breakfast which was included in my package was excellent with a large selection of international and Asian spreads. There were fried eggs as a part of the selection. Omelettes could also be made to order. There were plenty of fruits and a wide selection of breads. The lamb chops I had for dinner in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. Some of the waiters in the restaurant did not understand too much English and would immediately call their superior who could speak and understand English quite well and so I had no problems. I would definitely recommend this wonderful hotel.
Although some amenities of this hotel (like lobby, reception and public areas) seem like a 3 star hotel, but we found room clean and large enough. Also there was some weakness in soundproofing of rooms.
"Decent 3 star hotel"
I stayed at this hotel for three nights in the superior room. The room was of a good size and had all the basic amenities. Request for a room on a higher floor and facing away from the front road if you want a good night's sleep. As stated by other reviewers, the staff's English is limited but we didn't find it to be too much of a hindrance. Check in and check out was quick except that I was asked to pay a 200RMB deposit for the minibar even after asking them to remove it from the room. It was though returned at check out but I ended up not using that money during my trip- so unnecessarily wasteful. The breakfast spread is decent especially if you eat meat. Good selection of both continental as well as Asian. The main selling point for the hotel is that it's in a great location- the forbidden city about a 20 minute walk and the Wangfujing shopping street around the corner. The subway is easily accessible as well as the airport express bus.
