"Top of the top"
We stayed here during our time in NYC. Loved the vintage-luxury style around every single detail in the hotel. Our 180 degrees view from the 31st floor was insane, overlooking the city and the park. I was impressed with the bathroom decoration. All cover up with mirrors and of course the staff made their part with their sincere service and warm touch.
"Great for singles"
Nice friendly hotel with great entertainment, perfect location and great for singles, loved the piano bar. As a single woman I totally enjoyed my stay one does not need to go running around NY for entertainment a great bar.
"Disappointing for regular customer"
My wife booked this hotel where she stays regularly. I expected the hotel would give her a large room, but we were given a standard room with a small bathroom and poor view over a rooftop undergoing construction. They did give us fruits and nibbles and service was good, but the room itself could be better. Also housekeeping can be improved - they should not be inconsistent when closing the curtains and blinds during turning down service - some nights they don't close the blinds, and some night they close some but not all, so I ended up having to check every night myself.
"Charmed, I'm sure"
Agree with other reviewers that the service and food are excellent but the place is due for a remodel. Still, the Carlyle is well worth a visit. Stayed there in March with my wife and two young kids. The chief advantage' A two bedroom suite with a twin bed for each child, a kitchenette, and two and a half bathrooms! Not to mention the fascinating Cutler Mail chute, a relic of bygone days which completely fascinated the kids. They immediately bought postcards and mailed them to Grampa via this mail chute- one child waited in the lobby while the other dropped the postcard from several stories up. They have a private car service, which is nice if you need it. Great location near the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park. The elevator operators (another odd anachronism) put me off at first, but they were very pleasant and professional and gave me a sense of added hotel security. A couple minor things: I was not pleased that the turn down service did not clean up the crumbs from all the nice cookies they gave us. They also tried to charge another family member for a room I had specifically asked to pay for. In sum, however, warts and all, it is a charming place, and I would stay again.
"Amazing food and service but beware un-renovated rooms"
Not normally staying on upper east but did so for a company offsite...This is absolutely a New York classic...from woody allen playing clarinet on 2nd tuesday of hte month to excellent service to upper east side "locals" in the bar..Excellent food and drink and service......a very personal experience. Only downside: Two functioning elevators can mean long waits....and renovations aren't complete. I had a fantastic, but un-renovated suite, which well.... just very 1980's or older with a wiff of old carpet to it...this wouldn't put me off from staying again...but just ask for a renovated room,,
