It is a fabulous resort with every upgrade you can hope for. We have been staying here for years....it's wonderful in every way. Shopping in the Crane Village, nice restaurant choices , a grocery store for incidentals and come cooking if you so desire. Friendly staff, beautiful ocean views from most buildings....4 or 5 pools, a beautiful beach...it is a complete package.Comment of M. Ron , United States the 2016-08-06
"Third trip, 2017, is not quite the charm"
The Crane, in the off season, has been our refuge. We had a few issues during our last visit (wrote a review in 2016). We're writing this review independently of the others. The good - Joan, she worked with me to get mangos (out of mango season); It was a pleasant surprise for my wife on our arrival. Also, Janine, Shelley, and Mikquel we're excellent, great service. Sammy, remembered our faces from last year ... greeted us warmly. As did James, and the gentleman who gave us the complementary rum punch (it does pack a punch) and the cold eucalyptus towels (forgive us for not remembering your name). The service from the staff was excellent throughout our 12 days. The bad (for us) - more people this year. We think it's because of the Hurricanes that hit the other islands ... re-routing the tourists here. We like the off season because of the small, quiet crowds (we're confident The Crane likes the extra revenue). We booked a suite with an ocean view ... we got a suite with a view of the elevator being repaired (and the ocean/beach behind it. The Crane pleasantly shuttled my wife around in a golf cart until we found a nice 1st floor suite with a pool, and an ocean view. After unpacking, we learned that there's an access path between the pool and ocean ... workers always smiled and said; "hello" when they walked by (while we were in the pool). Not quite the experience we were expecting. The water pressure faded out as we were filling the Jacuzzi. We used a pot and a bowl to help fill the tub (from the sink faucet). When the water came back, the pressure was still low. The next day, it took awhile to fill the tub. The electricity went out, twice ... and the suite warmed up quickly. We learned that half of the island lost power. Yet it's surprising that there's no generators or solar power backups, especially for a 4 star resort. Vacationers expect uninterrupted conveniences and relaxation. The beach gets a lot of seaweed. A curtain system was installed in the ocean a while ago to greatly reduce the seaweed on the beach; it's not working. The beach is 4 levels down (elevator is out of service), so it's difficult to get machinery onto the beach, but 2 men with rakes and a wheelbarrow can't keep up with all of the seaweed! The beach is critical to the Crane experience ... a lasting seaweed solution is needed. We like Barbados, the people are good. We ride the bus with them and talk to them. We will likely come back to Barbados after European & Stateside vacations. In summary, the water (low or no pressure), electric (no generator/solar backup), and beach (seaweed) issues can disturb/lessen your vacation experience. These problems translate into no cooking, melting ice cream (we like milkshakes), no air conditioning, no tv, no shopping in the village (they didn't have power either), no Wi-Fi, etc. In short, after 2,000 miles of travel, we experienced inconveniences that negatively impacted our vacation. We worked around them the best that we could (conversation), but it was still a bad few hours. We like the Crane (love the staff). We hope the Crane will use this review to make the needed improvements to the facility to ensure that guests have a vacation that is free of inconveniences. We travel from countries all around the world to relax ... to escape inconveniences and problems. We hope that this helps The Crane, and travelers. We look forward to seeing Barbados again ... and hopefully seeing The Crane operating at a 5 (not a 3.5).
My husband and I were scheduled to go to St Martin until the island was destroyed along with many others due to hurricanes. We decided on Barbados one, because our airline, two, its not in the major hurricane zone and three, the reservation desk was incredibly friendly (helpful). We loved staying at The Crane as it wasn't crowded, it was away from all the noise and the grounds were very clean and well kept. We were nervous after reading some of the reviews but thought we'd take a chance. When we arrived at The Crane we were offered rum punch while we waited to be checked in. I can see why it's the signature drink. A few minutes later we were brought to our room. We were incredibly impressed with our room (Jr Suite). It was spacious, the AC worked perfect and it was close to all amenities. The restaurants were yummy. The staff was so friendly every single day. We always felt welcomed! Although the beach elevator was under construction, it was not s big deterrent to go to the beach. The beach was absolutely beautiful. If we weren't at the beach we enjoyed one of the pools. We are hoping to return to The Crane next year!!!
"Great vacation !"
Warm friendtly staff. The Crane is a gem for a nice relaxing vacation in Paradise. It is hidden in Barbados. Beautifull gardens, many pools to have fun, and a very beautifull beach ! There are several ( 5 ) restaurants on premises, food is amazing, and prices are fair, cheaper than other restaurants on the island.
"A beautiful Hotel with amazing views."
The Crane has a great ambience, staff are wonderful & I love the rooms, Jacuzzi, pools & the great views, love this place. I really like the Gospel breakfast on Sunday mornings also, it also has shops & duty free on site.
