I had a very lovely stay at the hotel.Comment of D. Irene , Israel the 2017-01-11
"great location, clean, amazing breakfasts"
We liked this hotel a lot -- the only reason we did not give it 5 stars is the small rooms, not much space to walk around the beds. But given its location, not a deal-breaker. The breakfasts are amazing, staff is great and very helpful, clean, beautiful roof-top bar/restaurant, with pool - and view of the acropolis! The night-time view from the roof was particularly nice. We got a family room, which was 2 rooms connected by a hallway, that had its own separate door -- in other words, a decent amount of space.
"Very Average Property with Terrible Attitudes"
I booked this hotel through Mr. and Mrs. Smith, whose curation of hotels usually impresses me. This hotel in their collection, however, did not. Rooms were cramped, mediocre, and did not feel well cleaned. I say this because when we checked in, and first went up to our room, there was a distinct smell of fecal matter in the restroom. I'm sorry, but you don't let your guest into a room that smells of the previous guest who probably had just checked out moments before. Service was the most appalling aspect. The website we had booked this hotel through entitled us to free welcome drinks at the hotel's rooftop bar (which was admittedly beautiful - with views of the Acropolis). The hotel staff however did not offer this to us at check-in. When I asked them about the free drinks, they denied that these were meant to be offered to "regular" members of this hotel-booking website. When I argued that the language of the text, which I showed them, indicated that free drinks were supposed to be offered to ALL members, the hotel staff kept repeating that I was "only a regular member," and was therefore not entitled to free welcome drinks. They begrudgingly offered a free welcome drinks coupon anyway, and we left the hotel to roam the city. When we came back at nightfall, the staff member who was being argumentative earlier accosted me at the hotel lobby, approaching me with a file that stated that I was not a premium user of the hotel-booking website we had used, as if that proved the point he was trying to make earlier, which is to say he was still missing the point entirely. I was really not intending to press for the drinks if they were unwilling to offer them, but to offer them, and then blindside me at the hotel lobby at the end of my day to prove you're "right" goes against the spirit of every luxury hotel I've ever been to. Will not visit again.
"Pictures not realistic"
I booked this hotel via tephone through Sheraton. Although the staff was very nice, the hotel is situated in a not so nice neighborhood and most of the site seeing places was far away. I killed a not sure what it was bug. The elevator was a 3x4 box and the rooftop was on the 9 the floor. If you are claustrophobic as I am, you are in for some anxiety getting to your room. I had my room lowered to the second floor so I could take the stairs. And don't try to get on the elevator when a bus load of tourists with luggage come in. The lobby has very low, dated uncomfortable furniture. Sheraton should not recommend this hotel. It is the only Sheraton I have ever stayed in and was disappointed.
This was a solid hotel choice. Easy check-in, room was comfortable, and the service was really great. The gym area is top notch, and the rooftop pool/bar was very enjoyable. The food on the rooftop restaurant is delicious. The pool area closes around 6:30pm, so get your sun in early. You can still lounge below in the resto area. The views of the acropolis are spectacular from the pool. The hotel's location is quite good, and a short walk away from the main sites. Good value for the price. Recommended!
"Not what it seems"
We booked a superior room w/ balcony on Kayak but upon check-in, we were placed in a 2nd floor room with no balcony. We showed the front desk our confirmation email and they quickly resolved the issue, however, the only room available with a balcony was a 3rd floor room that had two double beds pushed together instead of the one queen bed we had originally. We opted for the balcony room as it felt slightly more spacious. The room is very narrow; the foot of the bed is about 2 feet from the wall. The balcony view is quite worthless as we had a couple run-down, graffiti-ed buildings, only a short distance away, blocking our view. But it was still nice to be able to step outside and check out the weather and the hubbub on the street below us from our room. Fresh hotel is not located in the nicest part of town (lots of graffiti and rinky dink shops) which we had no issues with, and it is conveniently located near Monastiraki Square (visit the Flea Market) and the Central Market (open air market selling meat, fish, produce, etc). There is a rooftop terrace (with restaurant and pool) which was mandatory for us when considering hotels, obviously for the amazing views of the Parthenon up on the Acropolis. Remember those run-down, graffiti-ed buildings blocking our view on the 3rd floor' Yup, those buildings effectively blocked most of our view up on the rooftop as well. Our impression of this hotel when booking it was that it was chic and modern and but after our stay we can conclude that it seems to be a very average hotel that had some recent cosmetic renovations to appear hip and new. We booked 4 hotels during our Europe trip, devoting the same amount of time to researching each place and all met or exceeded our expectations except for Hotel Fresh so we feel we were misled with this one. Fresh is not necessarily a bad hotel, however, for the price we paid, there are definitely better options such as 360 and A for Athens. The hospitality was standard and the hotel served its purpose, but I would not return or recommend to others.
