"Great building, ordinary facilities"
Pleasant period-styled decor in very spacious rooms. In-room facilities are very disappointing for a premium-priced property. In-tub shower (very narrow), no cable tv (pay to view movies only), overall a disappointment.
"So Grande, so blissful"
The search for the best place to stay in Melbourne is over: what an absolute pleasure to indulge in refined surroundings, knowing that you're stepping along corridors where esteemed others have been. The list of distinguished past guests is most impressive and the service and general atmosphere of The Windsor made me feel at least as important as previous guests of note. Beautiful quality furniture and fittings, exquisite silver service, awe-inspiring historical artefacts all make for an uplifting experience which soothes the soul after a hard day at work. Sublime. And what a surprise to find a gym with basic but functional equipment, situated to provide a lovely view of the park, trees and Parliament buildings. Not to mention the joy of slipping into a hot bath - so rare in today's modern hotels. Loved my time with this Grande Olde Dame, will be back as soon as possible.
"Old world luxury"
We had passed The Windsor many times and had heard wonderful things about it,so were very excited to be actually staying there. The hotel and its staff didn't disappoint, we had a fabulous, albeit short stay. Fantastic room, elegant dining, attentive staff. We will be back!
"Fake! The Hotel Windsor does not do fake."
From the big smile on the staff polishing the giant brass front doors, to the starched white pinafore aprons on the maids, or the endless chandeliers there is nothing fake at The Windsor. She is the rich old great aunt with the fabulous history you wish you had in the family. Then when you finally go to visit she warmly welcomes you and you wonder what took you so long. There are a few corners looking tired, but then the Windsor has been there since 1883, the chips and knocks just reveal that the marble and mahogany are real- no fakes here. The only thing that might be slightly fake are the fabulously huge ladies diamantes spider brooches worn by the staff. Apparently they were all the rage in 1883.
"Wonderful historic hotel with excellent service"
I love the Windsor Hotel. You are greeted on arrival by a door man who will help with the luggage. A bell boy took my bags up to my room and showed me how to work the lights (which were excellent and easy to use) and ensured everything was fine. The lights were really excellent. I like bright lights for reading and dimmer lights for watching TV or talking to someone and they catered for both. I could open the windows of my room. The air conditioning was top class. My room was huge and very comfortable. There was a small fridge and a kettle. I can only afford to stay when there is some sort of sale on as it is expensive but well worth it.
