"They have the best view"
The Resort offers the best view in the island but it doesn’t give you a nice beach to enjoy. Their infinity pool is nice though. The resort itself is beautiful but it is poorly maintained, you can see signs of being an old property everywhere. They are celebrating their 9th anniversary this month and they offer guests 50% off to food, beverages and spa. Their staff are friendly, helpful and cheerful especially “King” who mostly assisted us during our stay. We loved their food. Breakfast is plated and just OK.
The room was great. Location is good. Staffs are kind and nice. They were extremely helpful in finding and organizing the return of headphones that we left in the room after checkout. Very nice pool and beachfront areas. We will definitely come again.
I stayed here for five days with a friend. The staff was super friendly the room was meticulously clean with an amazing view. The staff was nice enough to drive me to a pharmacy when I needed to pick something up. I'm absolutely in love with their bathroom amenities I've even gone as far as having them ship me five bottles to New York. The restaurant was delicious!! I highly recommend this Hotel and in the future I will definitely be back.
"Wedding and week long stay at The Kala, Koh Samui - Thailand"
We have just returned from a week long stay at the Kala, including having our wedding there. Couple plus wedding guests. The WEDDING; Michelle & Am (The Kala managerial and coordinating staff) couldn't have done more in the build up, answering my countless emails and getting back to me with info and in a timely manner. On the day they made sure everything was perfect from their side and even when the heavy rain meant we had to go with plan B of having the ceremony in the lobby overlooking the beautiful bay, they made sure everything was re-set asap, from musicians, to flowers, chairs, camera & video crew, they coordinated everything very well and the day was a huge success. THE ACCOMMODATION: If you're expecting a 5 star modern facility - its not exactly that. However the Kala more than makes up for it with a more family friendly, rustic, charming and quirky set up - which was perfect for us and we absolutely loved it. The rooms and villas are built into the hillside and feature lots of wood panelling and amazing views of the ocean. We stayed in villa 104, amazing villa - would highly recommend it. 180 degree ocean views, complete with private pool, sunken bath, outdoor shower etc. It was really a pleasure to stay there. we had originally booked for 5 nights, but ended up staying 8 I think. The place is lovely, the views are stunning, the setting is great and the resort has a cute, friendly rustic charm, rooms and villas nestled in amongst the jungle foliage and rocks on the hillside. the design of the place is great and all of our guests who stayed there agreed the venue was stunning and staff were brilliant. THE LOCATION: Situated between Chewang & Lamai it offers bit more peace and quiet than being in the middle of things. More a couples resort, but they catered very well for our wedding an some 20 guests. As its built on the hillside… there are plenty of steps, so if you don't like walking up stairs or are in a wheelchair - perhaps this isn't the place for you. however the wooden pathways and jungle foliage give the place a real tropical feel and it felt like a comfy home rather than a hotel. The Kala doesn't have its own beach, the shore line is rocky, (which is great for fishing off by the way - we caught quite a few fish there - and the fishing gear is provided free!) Free kayak's are provided if you wish to kayak round to the neighboring beach, approx 300m to the left. I would recommend renting a scooter and zip round to Silver beach (only 1km away, turn left out of hotel towards Lamai) its lovely and very close. The infinity pool is great, both we and our guests made good use of it to cool off from the hot sun. There is also a spa onsite, we had treatments as part of our wedding package which was great. THE STAFF: We were on first name terms with most of the staff, from the bar staff at the Rabbit Bar, to the girls working in the the restaurant everyone was so so helpful. from cocktails, ice cold Chang's or Singha's to kayak's, fishing gear and bait and sorting scooters... they were all very helpful and friendly. One day we were in a real rush to make our quad biking trip and within minutes they rustled up 2 lunch boxes complete with poached eggs, toast, butter, jam, bacon, sausage and muffins, which we scoffed as we bumped along in the back of a pick up en route to quad biking! They were all very friendly and accommodated our every request. OVERALL; Great place to stay as a couple, honeymoon or wedding venue or small group. Tropical jungle/ rock theme with nicely designed rooms and villas, particularly recommend villa 104, more privacy and very nice villa. (although I'm sure all are nice). 10 minute scooter ride to either Chewang or Lamai, so although not in the action, easy to get to. Taxis can be flagged down outside on the road, or arranged via the hotel. 9/10 - would definitely return - very welcoming, charming, friendly small resort. Richard & Taly
"Quiet peaceful hotel "
This is a great hotel for those wanting quiet tranquility and peace away from the noise and activity of Lamai beach nearby. The staff is wonderful and kind. My girlfriend and I stayed for four nights here. The kayaks are a nice way to head to a quiet close by beach. The food is good and the pricing fair for the quality of resort. If you want shopping and other restaurants the town of Lamai is two miles away a quick five min drive. The hotel provides a free shuttle once a day and a service charge of 300 baht otherwise ... the same price as a cab to or from. If your looking for a peaceful relaxed retreat this hotel is highly recommended. MW
