"Nice surroundings, disappointing hotel"
The view is truly amazing, sitting outside watching the sea, and the hotel has a beautiful location embedded in green surroundings. This is why we give them a 2, otherwise it would probably be 1... The room was ok. Sheets torn and was changed once (!) during our two week stay (and that was when we complained about it...). Towels rarely changed, and we didn't get new pool towels unless we went to the reception. Bathroom was extremely worn, and decorated with spider web. Smashed mosquito on the wall in the bedroom stayed there for the entire stay. Staff ok, but not very service minded. More than once we listened to them screaming at each other. Breakfast was horrible. Very slim selection of foods, and what you ordered came out wrong or tasting vinegar. First week breakfast was ordered from menu only, second week a buffé, although the selection was the same as from the menu. Restaurant was not kept clean, stains everywhere. Restaurant food quite ok, but extremely over prized! Better food down at Coral Cove, 5 minutes away, and a lot cheaper! Twice in two weeks the hotel was completely reserved for weddings - pool, bar, restaurant, everything. We got a massage each for the trouble. Massages was ok, but not that special. In order to stay at a hotel on such a remote location, we really expect service and ackommodation to be top notch! Unfortunately that was not the case during our stay. We love Koh Samui and will certainly go back there, but we will most certainly not be staying at the Kala.
"Service splendid and fantastic views"
Really nice staff and a great view from our nice room will have to be our top for this tip top hotel. Everytime we stepped outside the door everyone wanted to help. You felt really welcome at the arrival and at the morning lunch or dinner, everyone was there to make it a pleasant stay
"The Time Stands Still"
The titel is the motto of the hotel and it is clear to say, that we could see that time stood still since our last stay there in 2012, nothing has changed. We could notice the five years passed in the room we had and with the towels provided for the room and for the beach. The location is still excellent, the surroundings also. The food is still good, but not excellent any more. It has changed since last time.
"The best hotel/resort we have been to!"
Everything about our stay at The Kala was amazing, they had lots of activities to do on site and we took part in all of them. The staff were fantastic and couldn't be more helpful. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. Views of the bay were so nice to wake up to everyday. Food and drinks were delicious and lots of it. Not one thing we could fault. Thank you very much for making our stay great and super relaxing. Joshua and Brittany
I would have given it 0 rating if possible. Had the worst experience there. We booked the room 3 months in advance to ensure we get the room of our choice even if it was a bit more price compared to rest of the properties in that area. It was the best room of that property with a private pool. When we checked in, we were given a basic room to our amazement. When we showed them that the booking is for the private pool villa, they told us to wait in the room for few mins for them to check and come back. 30 mins passed and no response. When we went back to check, they told us that unfortunately the room is not available due to some mistake by the sales team. We were hugely disappointed or I should say pissed off. As a compensation, they offered us 2000 bhat that to be consumed within the resort. We told them that the fare difference between both rooms was more that 2k bhat when we booked it and we had no plans to eat in the restaurant so It won't work for us. Nevertheless, we asked them to see what else could they do with the compensation and clearly told them to ensure that for rest of the 3 nights, they give us the room we booked as we booked it for experience and there is no chance for us to stay in the basic room. Much to our surprise, they came back after an hour and offered us 8k Bhat compensation to be used in the resort and against staying in the basic room. I could not believe that they still had the guts to offer us this when we had clearly specified that we wanted the pool villa that we have booked and not the basic one. It clearly showed that they have overbooked the private pool villa and now somehow they want to convince us to stay in the basic room. Moreover, they were saying sorry but didn't look like they actually feel it. I was on the verge of crying as I could see my holiday (honeymoon) being spoiled by them. Then my husband took the command and talked to expedia for an hour. Luckily we had booked the resort through them and not with the hotel directly which helped us escalate the issue with them and they helped us move to a different property. Would never recommend this resort to anyone. Pleas stay away.
