Situated in central Madrid, The Principal Madrid is very close to Puerta de Sol, the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Cibeles and Puerta de Alcalá.
The hotel is located on one of the city's most iconic streets, la Gran Vía; a lively street which has plenty to offer in terms of leisure, dining and shopping.
L'hôtel est tout nouveau, les chambres sont spacieuses. Le personnel est très attentif et très gentil. Le restaurant est excellent. En termes de position géographique, il est vraiment très central, au croisement des axes Gran Via et Paseo del Prado.Comment of B. Mohamed Karim , Morocco the 2015-02-18
"Historic on the outside, modern on the inside"
First up, the great things about this place: - Nice modern hotel design in a heritage building. - Service was good, particularly the bellboys/concierge. - Perfect location within easy walking distance to attractions, food and shopping. - The room we booked was spacious with lots of natural light and a funky bathroom. - Nice toiletries and they were very generous with these. - Great rooftop bar. Things that can be improved: - Upgrade for SPG members - Free breakfast for SPG members Overall it was a good stay and I'd recommend this hotel :)
"Amazing location and rooftop, nice hotel"
We did a long weekend at the Principal recently. It's a nice hotel, I'd say 3.5 out of 5 stars, but I rated it a 4/5 because of the incredible location and very nice rooftop. The hotel is in very good condition. Everything was clean, new or nearly new, and orderly. The room was a bit small, but totally reasonable. Everything inside (furniture, bed, AC, etc) were all perfectly functional but not particularly noteworthy. The bathroom seemed to be new and was immaculate, with a beautiful walk-in shower. Hotel staff was courtesy but not super helpful. For example, they booked us dinner reservations at 8pm, which is embarrassingly early in Madrid. And every time we walked in the doorman seemed suspicious of us -- I guess they get a lot of random walk-ins because of the location' Anyway, super minor stuff. The rooftop and balconies are really nice. Great for a drink or some light food. We didn't eat any meals at the hotel -- breakfast was not included and it didn't seem worth the 25 or so euros. The hotel lobby floor (6th) was really nice, with a great sitting area where you could get a coffee or just hang out if you had a few minutes of downtime. Ultimately this was a nice place to stay because of the location and generally good condition of the hotel. This is especially true if you are using SPG points, as they are accepted. The service was fine and the room/view were OK, but not of note. Overall the hotel is a bit bland, but it will do the job nicely for most people, especially if you are there for business or site-seeing and the hotel is not the point. It's mainly a place to sleep and shower.
"Look no more. This is the best place to stay in Madrid"
Honest smiling from the bell boys to the housekeepers, excellent recommendations from the concierge, spotless rooms, interesting interior design, lovely long pillows and very comfortable mattresses (don't bring shampoo, conditioner, body lotion or shower gel as the ones they have are fantastic - and I'm picky, also they provide slippers), effective black out curtains and perfect location. We walked everywhere from the hotel to Prado, Chueca, Retiro, Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol. We thank Gustavo for being patient will all our questions as well as our desire to chit chat (we were literally bombarding him, this was only our second trip away from the children and we were thirsty for information; apologies)
"Great location and service"
The location is great, the customer service top quality with people who speak various languages, the restaurant great quality. But the best is the wonderful terrace upstairs, absolutely unbeatable. Will surely come here again when in Madrid.
Great location right between the two best areas in Madrid for shopping, dining and bars. Lovely decorated hotel, comfortable beds, smiling and friendly staff offering service of highest quality. Breakfast was outstanding. Our stay at Principal was one of this rare occasions where every thing was perfect. However make sure to reserve tables in advance at their restaurant. We didn't and it was fully booked all weekend, lunch and dinner. We ordered room service for one dinner and that was delicious.
