While you might say you want a room with a view, I can report that I had my best nights sleep ever in NYC in a "courtyard" room. Which basically means it's a large space created by the irregular shapes of the buildings and you don't even want to open the curtains to see it. HOWEVER, it's SO darn quiet! FWIW I was in room 1116 and the decor was lovely and the mattress was unusually comfortable. I'll definitely be back.
"Vintage Manhattan with Modern Luxury"
The Sherry exudes old-time New York City charm in the heart of it all, a stone's throw away from the Plaza and Central Park, hot dog stands and horse-driven carriage rides in between. The hotel is big on tradition (guest chocolates, white-gloved elevator conductors) but lacks nothing in the way of modern convenience, fully wired w/operations integrated into the web. It's not cheap, but why go to New York City for a sub-par hotel experience when a bit more will deliver a full-service stay in a large, beautiful room' Note: the Sherry is part residential, part hotel. The staff is terribly discrete, but having stayed there a few times, don't be surprised if you run into a celebrity or two, as many live there. Proper Manhattanites are used to seeing famous people all the time, so don't give yourself away as an out-of-towner by reacting too enthusiastically!
"What a way to escape a hurricane"
A gem of a hotel in a perfect neighborhood. Who can beat having Cipriani downstairs and discounted when staying at the hotel. The rooms do not feel like a hotel but rather like your own home. The staff is professional, helpful and friendly.
"Over the top excellent service!"
This hotel is traditional in style, and definitely not trendy. The property is lovely, and the service is amazing. They went over and above to make sure my sons and I had an amazing visit to NY. The rooms were large. I want to especially thank Deborah, Head of Housekeeping, for her excellent service. Truly, everything was outstanding. Highly recommend.
"Very Nice with Flaws"
The Sherry is a very nice old hotel with old style service. It has a great location across from Central Park. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff are very friendly and proud of the hotel's history. On the down side, we had no internet at all for more than two days. The TV reception was also out for a couple of days, and when "fixed" it still lost reception every 10 minutes. We asked for updates on the internet and TV every time we passed the front desk. The staff was friendly and sympathetic, but the problem was not solved and there was no offer of compensation. These days internet is essential as event tickets, communication, etc. are online. We maxed out our data usage on our phone because the Sherry's WiFi was down so long. We are disappointed that there was no internet or offer of compensation.
