"Partners 40th birthday "
Absolutely fantastic hotel with an amazing room 113. Booked this hotel for my fiancé 40th birthday for 3 nights. We spent the first night in the hotel and ate in the restaurant. Fantastic meal made even nicer by friendly staff especially Megan. I emailed the concierge the weeks before and they all went above and beyond to make it special. Thank you everyone certainly won't forget it. Great memory created.
We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at The St David's Hotel and Spa. The room we were given was lovely. It was large, comfortable and clean. The facilities in the room were excellent, including a very nice coffee machine. The bathroom was also good with a very warm, powerful shower. The nicest part of the room was the magnificent view from the balcony. We were delighted with the complimentary drinks vouchers and found the staff in the hotel exceptionally friendly and helpful. An email I sent to the hotel was replies to very promptly which was greatly appreciated. The only slight let down about this hotel was the spa. In comparison to other spas, the facilities were not brilliant and we found the space around the pool slightly tired looking. There was a lot of water lying on the floor and the lounges looked bit dirty. However, as a hotel, an excellent option when staying in Cardiff. There are some great bars and restaurants within walking distance and it was only about £7 in an Uber into Cardiff centre.
"Cardiff Bay - definitely worth a visit"
The hotel looks very impressive from the outside and inside, the reception area does not disappoint however, the rooms are a little tired and in need of some TLC. Our bathroom had some black mould on the tiles, the bedroom carpet was stained, the leather look bucket seats and dressing table chair were worn and thread bear in places and the 'sail' that separates the balconies was dirty. On arrival, we were asked if we would like to book a table in the restaurant, which at that point we were unsure. We returned 10 minutes later to be told that the restaurant was fully booked and a table was not available. The restaurant does not appear big enough for the number of rooms and prospective guests. Instead, we sat in the bar area to eat (which was fine) and the food was delicious. We asked for a large glass of red wine but were told they do not do large glasses and we would need to purchase a bottle - so we had a medium glass. The following evening, we were able to order a large glass - so perhaps there is a knowledge gap of staff working in the bar' Breakfast on the second morning was pleasant however the first morning not so. It was chaotic, tables were not being cleared and when we left, approximately 8 tables were empty awaiting clearance however customers were queuing out of the restaurant door, waiting to be seated. The layout of the self service food was dis-jointed and allowed little room for manoeuvre around other guests that were seated. For the price charged, it was disappointing that these things were overlooked by the hotel. The hotel is approximately 10 minutes drive from Cardiff City Centre and St Davids shopping - we booked a taxi via reception and it cost around £6 each way. There are lots of eating places in and around Cardiff Bay - just a few minutes walk from the hotel - and there is a lovely board-walk route that means you don't need to walk on roads. I would recommend taking a look. From the bay, you can get water taxi's to Penarth - a quaint little town, steeped in history.
Visited here for a one night stay and really loved the pool facilities and view from the room. The room was very hot during our stay but we didn’t ask for anyone to rectify it and I’m sure they would have done. All the staff we encountered were really friendly. The breakfast buffet was amazing, very fresh and topped up lots by the great staff. Loved the robes and slippers provided in the rooms! Beware however that parking is £15 for an evening stay and there is some cheaper alternatives in the area. This hotel is in a perfect location for the bay!!
Stayed her for my 21st birthday, was rather worried because of recent reviews so didn't have much high hopes. On arrival- difficult to park, managed to find 1 spot! With £15 a night would expect more parking! There is a pay and display but expect to park onsite for the overnight stay. Checked in way quick, had a deluxe room- soo fab! Nice, Morden, full of everything you need and more including dressing gowns and slippers, iron board etc .... And the view was so worth the extra money, overlooking the bay! Could not fault it. We went for afternoon tea as it was a birthday gift. Felt a bit underdressed as it was so posh! Had a tea presentation and high class cakes! Definitely reccomend! Only one note: if you don't like tea or coffee, soft drinks like coke are extra charge. We then used the spa facilities, please note that lockers are £1 but as we didn't bring our money we left our bags in one without locking it. Pool was cold, but there was plenty other facilities to use! Loungers were a good touch. Best night sleep I had in ages, and waking up to the view was even better. Did not stay for breakfast as it was far too expensive, so walked to Bills (5-10 mins) instead and had breakfast there for half the price. Overall, had an amazing birthday, both spa and afternoon tea was perfect! Would love to stay here again!
