"First trip - Bangkok"
What an excellent stay at The Sukhothai hotel. I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality property, staff and service. I highly recommend this hotel. We also were given some good guidance on what to see in the city, where to eat, and sights not to miss.
"Only one Lavazza coffee capsule and a decaf one"
This is a wonderful hotel. The interior is exquisitely decorated, with (I hope) replicas of Ankor Wat wall reliefs. Beautiful ponds with lotusses, sitting areas, and shops. The swimmingpool must have cost a fortune with the malachite colored Bisazza mosaic. Great thought was given to details in our room, like the night illumination in the bathroom (the room itself was too dark though). Almost perfect, because we were wondering why we only had one real coffee capsule and a decaf capsule. We are with two, and we both need genuine coffee.

"Five stars + from a complainer"
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I have stayed in some of the world’s great hotels, and this is right up there at the top. The Oriental is great, and right on the river, but it’s twice as expensive or more. I stayed here twice in the span of a year, but that was 15 years ago. I have lived in Vietnam for 14 years and when I come to Bangkok 3 times a year I stay at the Intercontinental...mainly for its convenience. It’s a nice place, but there is no comparison. The attention to detail, the number of times during the day the staff tidies the room, the New pool.... The most fabulous thing about this place though is the rooms. I had an executive suite for 3 nights on my own. I barely left the hotel. I had heard the place was run-down, but my room was perfect, no dents in the wood, and everything was so beautiful. Truly some of the most beautiful hotel rooms anywhere are at the Sukhothai. A few minor things. A club sandwich in the bar left me feeling rather ill. I am not sure why. It was delicious. The pillows were odd; I do not know if they are feather pillows or synthetic. Finally, the person who checked me in was friendly, but just barely. This is a very special place. It will be my new home in Bangkok. The staff is fantastic. Thanks!
