Location couldn't be better. Very nice breakfast. Rooms clean and comfortable. Good service. We had a small issue with incorrect charges for the hotel transportation, that was corrected in a timely matter in response to our email. Beautiful hotel interiors. If you want to feel "imperial" in the center of the city, that is your hotel !
"Opulence and style but lacking the 5* service and customer care."
There is no doubting the grandeur of this hotel however once you get over the 'wow' factor the cracks start surfacing. Our room was fine with luxurious drapes and fabrics but there was not enough natural light to make it welcoming. However the bathroom was sheer luxury. Breakfast service was haphazard and lacked friendliness and coordination. We were also shocked by the cost to guests for using the swimming pool. After having a drink in the roof top restaurant we decided not to eat there as it lacked character. My wife asked about tea and coffee making facilities and was told to use room service but we found out you could get a kettle if you asked for it but this was not volunteered. The hotel is centrally situated and perfect for public transport and access to the Winter Palace complex. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Overall this hotel lacks the quality in all aspects to make me feel I would like to go back.
"Great appearance, less service"
This hotel looks spectacular inside. We were pleased with the size of our room. The bathroom had heated floor and was roomy as well with large bath and nice shower. The rest was a bit disappointing because we moved to this 5-star hotel after staying in 4-star hotel nearby just recently, but unlike we expected, we got our service downgraded. Small conveniences we were used to were now gone: there was no coffee in the room, but we found nice caffe shop just next door; the fitness club was available for free but the hours were so inconvenient that we could not use it (9AM to 10PM); there was a swimming pool, but we expected expected to pay 2500 rubles per person per day to be able to use it, so we did not; we were hoping that concierge service will help us with tickets to attractions, but it appears concierge can only Google the information for you if you have a question; we were able to use Wi-Fi once or twice in the room, while most of the time it was challenging, but we were shown the single standing computer (called "Business Center") where we could search for what was needed and even order the tickets to the Hermitage (again, in the past, the 4-star hotel's concierge just got it for us when we asked) In the very nicely decorated room we observed dusty spider web hanging down from the ceiling, which was taken care of once we pointed out to it, but we were told that rooms get cleaned only once a year. This made us wonder how much dust gets collected on these beautiful draperies, and explained to us why our dust allergies started bothering us again... There was a reasonable food selection at the breakfast, and once we discovered that we can get a water bottle there, we stopped being upset over the kid size water bottles delivered to the room daily. ( The large water bottle with the price tag of 500 rubles did not help feeling welcome :-) ) Room had lots of closet space for hanging our cloth, but we would rather have more shelves or a dresser. I am giving this hotel only 3 stars because we expected more from 5-star hotel.
"A super hotel!"
A super hotel and very central - easy walking distance to the Hermitage. The hotel is a converted palace with exceptional architecture and antique period furniture - very atmospheric! Large rooms comfortably furnished & large bathrooms - showers are excellent! Prices are generally on the high side e.g. A bottle of Water in the room 500 Rubles (£7+) !! Very good fast wifi. Unfortunately breakfast is buffet style with a wide variety of tepid food. Service is haphazard, a number of waiting staff but lacking organisation e.g. Tea ordered and not delivered on a number of occasions, some drinks delivered which were not ordered, some staff standing about oblivious that clearing & attention being required by guests. There are A number of good restaurants are in the local area reasonably priced. Coffee & tea making facilities in the bedrooms would have improved the overall experience . An Exorbitant price needed to have a swim in the hotel pool.
"Luxury at it's best, enjoying old world charm"
This privately owned palace hotel with a spa is 5 minutes walk away from the Hermitage museum in the heart of the old town. The rooms are beautiful and it is very central. Indeed five star. It was one of the most beautiful places we have stayed in. Service was also outstanding. Rooms furnished in old charm and bathrooms luxurious. Member of the leading hotels of the world.
