"Beautiful Hotel, Great Service"
We stayed for 3 nights. We checked in at 1 am and had a little trouble finding the hotel (our fault, not theirs). It is down an alley-way which was hard to see at night. After that, we never had a problem. The rooms were spacious and clean. Fridge, free water bottles, safe were nice amenities. We had great views of the canal and all the activity. As always, the Westin Heavenly Bed was perfect at the end of a long day walking all over. Service was impeccable. I would recommend spending extra for the waterr taxi as it will take you directly to the hotel. The water bus drops you off not that far away - unless you are trying to drag a 40 pound suitcase over cobbestones at 1 am, then it seems really far!
"Charming Stay on the Grand Canal"
2nd time staying here this year. Convenient access to all the sites. About a 25 min water taxi from the airport. Decent breakfast. High end shopping less than 2 min walk and San Marcos is 5 mins away. Excellent staff.
"Time for a total renovation."
A brief list of problems: had to change rooms due to being put in rear on ground floor facing walls and stained upholstery, totally inadequate outdated showers, flooded closet area due to old pipes breaking ..... Starwood please gut and update.
"Stunning Hotel on the Grand Canal"
This was the second time I stayed at the hotel and it only gets better. I had not been there for two years and one of the team members remembered me. Service, Food and drinks are out of this world You must experience this hotel.
"Grand European hotel - wonderful experience"
Flew into Venice mid-morning on a connecting flight from the US. Took the Alilaguna water bus from the Airport to San Marco Giardinetti (a little over an hour) and hiked the rest of the way. It's only about a 4-minute walk to the hotel, but with luggage, it's a workout, as there are two bridges with steps on the way. Don't do it if you have lots of heavy luggage - take a water taxi, which will deposit you only steps from the hotel. We had requested early checkin - had reserved an upgraded room (with SPG points) but had to wait a bit. We were in the room by 1:30, prior to the usual 3 pm checkin, so it wasn't too bad. The room itself was worth waiting for - nearly flawless. Partial view of the Grand Canal. Spacious, nicely decorated, good air conditioning - it was warm, but not hot, in Venice during our visit. The only problem with the room is that the bathroom was not well air-conditioned - it got pretty warm. Other than that, we were well pleased. We were able to obtain a bucket of ice for our afternoon cocktails within a few minutes of making the phone call. Breakfast was included for us - the usual spread of meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, eggs, pancetta, juices, etc. As another reviewer has noted, it is very over-priced if it isn't included in your rate or comp'd. The location of the hotel is superb. Very short walk to Piazza San Marco, yet it is on a side-street, so there is very little foot traffic outside the hotel, and it is very quiet. Would very much like to stay here again if returning to Venice.
