"Stayed four nights for conference at the convention center"
Our room didn't have much of a view. the bed was great thought and we slept well until a party started on the outdoor terrace outside our patio door. It was lout and started around 10 p.m and didn't end until the wee hours. we called the desk around midnite and they offered to move us, but who wants to get out of bed and move all their belongings. They knew this was scheduled and should not have put us in that room. They wound up not charging us for that night, but that was uncalled for. Had this not happened I would give a higher rating.
"Great Staff, Location and Place to Stay"
There are many reasons to stay at The Westin Gaslamp which is why this was my 9th stay in 5 years. I travel often, from NYC, but come to visit family and stay here. The location is ideal for walking to a myriad of places and events, but it is the employees and hotel that make me come back. Before I arrived, I contacted Matt Teyler, Guest Services Mgr. about rooms with a particular view. We emailed and decided on a previous room I stayed in. Then Sokpanna Reth, Westin Experience Specialist emailed me with confirmation to verify my choices and asked if I had any other requests. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the bellmen Rich and Paul and escorted to checkin. Nadine checked me in and the concierges Catherine and Sergio came by to greet me. I requested an early arrival and arrived before noon. The room was not ready, but that's reasonable at that early hour. I ate a good lunch at Pinzimini in the lobby area restaurant and Nadine came to tell me my room was ready- (less than an hour after arrival). When I got to the room, it wasn't what I remembered (my error) but I settled in. After dinner, I mentioned to Julianne, a concierge I was unhappy with the room. She escorted me to checkin and Tom, evening checkin, found a better room to suit my needs. I moved immediately. I awakened freshly rested and happy in my new home for the week. The staff was gracious, efficient and accommodating from the moment I arrived until my first night's sleep and throughout my stay. The overall Westin experience here relies on the concierges, Catherine, Julianne and Sergio who use their knowledge and willingness to assist guests so they have a wonderful experience at their hotel. They suggest restaurants, events, places of interest and excursions to suit every traveler's needs and desires. They even offer comps to various places, so don't be afraid to ask. After my many visits, I still consult them for advice about what's new and noteworthy in the area. The rooms are bright and well stocked with towels and aromatic toiletries. As with many hotel rooms, there are a few worn spots and minor inconveniences. The lighting in the bathroom is superb, but the shower/tub area is a bit drab- even though the european shower fixture is terrific. There was some hair in the drain and free bottled water was not delivered one day by housekeeping. Both were quickly remedied with a phone call. Drawer space is limited even for a solo guest, but there is ample closet space. General Manager Scott Hermes and his entire staff make this THE go to hotel in a fantastic area of San Diego. I look forward to returning to The Westin Gaslamp in October for my semi annual visit.
This hotel is in the heart of downtown San Diego. 10 minutes walk to the marine park pier. Two blocks from the gaslamp bar and restaurants. 20 minutes walk to the zoo and balboa park. It's located right by a small shopping mall and there is a Ralph next to it if you need water and snacks. The rooms are clean and well maintained. It's a big hotel so it's probably more for business people. They do have a heated outdoor pool but I did not check it out. Gym is very basic. A standard Westin.
"Great location. Nice digs. Food good."
Upon check in you're asked if you'd like to help with their environmental efforts and decline to have your room cleaned if you're there more than one night. Not sure how these two relate but, due to me needing to spend most of the next day in my room, I said, "Yes. Please don't service my room. I need to be in there all morning." I should have have done this. I didn't realize how nice it is to step back into my hotel room after a long afternoon of meetings to a refreshed room and made up bed. Instead my dirty dishes remained where I left them and I had to call the front desk to get them to bring me more coffee. And my hotel bill was still the same as if I had my room serviced - there is not discount offered. Hotel is in downtown area. Can see the bay around the buildings. Room - I was upgraded to a small suite - is a bit spartan for me but I always love the extra space. Would I come back' Probably choose something directly on the water.
"Excellent Stay Celebrating my Daughter's 21st Birthday"
We stayed at the Westin the last weekend in April 2017 for my daughters 21st birthday. Every staff member was excellent; friendly, courteous and very professional. Great location and the hotel is clean, comfortable and updated. Our favorite staff member was Dezirae Chung. She went out of her way to make sure we were happy and satisfied. The bartenders Rodrigo and Gerry were also excellent. I am a seasoned business traveler with alliances to another high-end hotel chain. Not anymore! The service and attention to detail during our fun stay at the Westin has convinced me to switch alliances! Thank you and we will be back.
