"Ok, good value"
Very convenient to the airport but otherwise not in a great neighborhood to walk around. Nice shuttle service to and from airport. Clean, nice staff, beds are Westin great. Lots of all day and night plane noise. Breakfast at hotel restaurant was very expensive and not at all tasty. Server had too many tables so service was bad too.
"Serious guest safety issues"
Having stayed in numerous hotels, including in the developing world, I have never felt that my personal safety was threatened once inside the hotel. This has now changed. The hotel lobby gives unrestricted access to all areas of the hotel, including bars, restaurant, gift shop, and guest floors. There are key card locks in the elevators, which would prevent non-guests from accessing guest floors, but these are out of use. Having reached the guest floors, service area doors were found to be unlocked and propped open. Shortly after arriving at the hotel, I witnessed an incident of theft from the gift shop, where the perpetrator had been able to ride his bicycle, unchallenged, across the lobby. There were no security staff on duty in the lobby area. Far more seriously, the following morning 20+ Children, aged 12-14, and clearly not guests, were in the pool area. After we had a brief period of enjoying the whirlpool, their behaviour in the pool forced us to leave. We complained to the front desk and one member of security, who again was not on duty in the lobby, was dispatched to deal with the problem. While in the elevator with us, the security officer called for assistance, but it was clear that the other officer was away from public areas and not readily available. We did not feel that this was a safe situation for us or him and, as a result, our enjoyment of the pool was curtailed. As with the elevators, the pool and gym areas have key card access control, but this is not in use. We would not stay in this hotel again, despite its very high quality rooms and good facilities, as it is not an environment where guest or staff safety is considered, and we would strongly advise other travelers to choose an alternative hotel.
"WOW just wow!! Exceptional."
Traveling for a conference held in the hotel. The conference rooms and service were excellent. I had the unfortunateness to have my wallet stolen by one of conference attendees which was shocking to everyone especially since the conference was attended by hospital managers, directors, lawyers and other executives. Upon discovery that my wallet was missing the conference and hotel staff all helped me to locate it. From the conference hosts to the front desk staff to hotel security to the LAPD who came everyone was super accommodating and nice. We were able to figure out who the person was and she was actually placed under arrest for felony theft as I had a significant amount of money in my wallet. I did get part of my money returned and my wallet with my phone returned. She will be forever banned from attending any conference sponsored by the organization in the future. Was removed from the hotel. that day, I was moved to another room for safety as she had all my Information including my room number. The hotel placed me in an executive suite complete with a dried nuts and fruit platter, bottled waters and a sense of safety and security. Security Josh and Todd were so nice and helpful, kept me updated and made sure I had what I needed. They even called to check in with me after I got home. The front desk personnel especially Sydney were quick to respond to my needs and request and even made the recommendation to track my iPhone which is how we located it. They also checked on me throughout my stay to ensure all was good after the incident. I have never been a true Westin traveler but after this I will use Westin properties when I travel for business or personal reasons. Thank you for turning a very negative experience into something that was made more bearable even though none of it was your fault. You certainly know how to take care of your customers and it shows throughout the hotel from all the staff not just the ones mentioned above. Thank you and I would recommend this hotel to all travelers.
"Doesn't anyone do quality checks in rooms'"
First, the good: 1. It's a great location for attending a concert at the Forum - a short Uber or taxi ride. 2. The lobby and public areas of the hotel were lovely. 3. The hotel restaurant was good and reasonably priced with its Monday happy hour specials. 4. The room seemed pretty quiet - we didn't hear any planes, although other reviewers did. 5. It was easy to get from the self-parking garage to the hotel lobby. 6. The two-way shower was nice and there were plenty of fluffy towels. And now for the bad and the ugly (see photos). I should have just asked for a different room as soon as I saw the beds (#1 below). Had I known there would be so many issues over the course of our less than 20-hour stay, I would have said something, but we got to the point where we didn't want to repack and move. So . . . 1. Our "heavenly bed," which the Westin is famous for, was far from heaven. The coverlets/comforters were visibly lumpy. They looked like something from a cheap motel or a poor laundering job. I wouldn't have my home guests sleep on a bed with a comforter like that. For a company that prides itself on its bedding, putting such shoddy covers on their beds is inexcusable. 2. When I did a bedbug check on the mattress upon arrival (fortunately, there were none), I found the zipper on the mattress was unzipped about 18 inches. It wasn't a mattress cover, it was the mattress itself. It just seemed a little creepy to me - why was the mattress unzipped and why didn't the housekeeper notice it when she changed the sheets' (I hope she changed the sheets!) 3. The circuit board on top of the refrigerator/cooler was totally exposed. Didn't anyone open the cabinet door where the cooler is housed and notice it' You'd think they would check for items left in the cooler and see all these wires, etc. Is it normal (or even safe) to just leave all the wires exposed and not try to fix or replace it' 4. The safe in the closet didn't work. I kept getting an error message. 5. The tabletop two-sided mirror in the bathroom was missing a screw on one side of the mirror. The stand/base was also very wobbly. If anyone picked it up (hopefully to clean the counter), they could see it was about to fall apart. 6. The bathroom had one of those light switches which also has a little rectangle light at the top for a night light. The night light function didn't work. 7. The coffeemaker had decent Starbucks coffee. However, the housekeeper left us 4 packets of sugar, 4 packets of raw sugar, 4 packets of the blue stuff, and 4 packets of Splenda, but NO creamer! Fortunately, I always bring some creamer, since hotels usually don't leave enough. Is it that hard to make sure the coffee tray is properly and accurately stocked' I have written a lot of hotel reviews, and this room had to be one of the worst I've experienced (and I'm usually very forgiving). I gave it a 2 rather than 1, because the hotel had a few redeeming factors. The Westin may have other perfectly fine rooms, but no one seemed to care about this one. Westin management needs to do something to ensure that rooms are regularly checked and maintained so every guest has a high-quality, pleasurable experience. Sure, I could have called down to complain, but I don't think a guest should have to take the time to make 7 calls about problems with their room (not to mention waiting to have them fixed). With so many choices of hotels near LAX, I don't think I'll be returning to the Westin.
"Ideal Hotel when staying at LAX"
Sorry for the late review but I'd still like to post some positives of my stay. The free Shuttle was handy even though it took a little while to come around to T4/5, not far at all to get to the hotel. Good dinning options, I ate at the bar & the drinks were strong & the chicken burger was excellent. After talking with friends at work about my stay it hit me that my room was very quiet & I slept very well on both nights. The room overlooked the entry & out to West Century Boulevarde. All the staff I had contact with were very efficient, pleasant & welcoming. That left a good impression on me that I have booked to stay here again for my next trip through LAX next year. Overall the Westin LAX ticked all the boxes for pricing, location, amenities and their staff. Happy to recommend to anyone looking to book a hotel near LAX.
