"Nice Hotel, mostly great staff. "
Staying at the Westin Grand Central for a few night getaway. It is in a convenient location near Grand Central. Front desk staff is nice. Rooms are great size. Wonderful bed and nice bathroom. Our shower was not draining properly, but was promptly fixed. However, the man working behind the bar serving us continental breakfast was SO rude. Had it not been included in the room rate, we would have left and eaten elsewhere.
"WOW Views with perfect location for train travellers"
So my fiancé got this hotel in a blind booking on hotwire.com for a really good price, especially considering that we booked it the day before New Year's Eve, for New Year's Eve. The hotel was perfectly located for what we had planned, and was close to the place that our friends were staying. Furthermore, since it was so cold out in New York City, we had been using the metro (Subway) to get around the city, and the hotel's proximity to Grand Central Station really made it a great choice. Check-in is at 3pm, and the lobby, when we arrived shortly after, was really busy with people checking in and out. I'm not sure if this is normal for the hotel, but given the location, I would not be surprised if they're always that busy. In which case, they should maybe consider getting more people to man the front desks, because we had a long line also when checking out in the morning. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though, because it was New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day when we were there. Our room was on the 23rd floor, and WOW. The VIEWS were just gorgeous! The room was good sized. You walked in, through the door, you could see all the way to the windows of the room. On the left was a bathroom--it was a little small, but still good size. On the right, there was a closet, with a safe in it, and extra pillows/comforter. When you got into the bedroom area, you had the bed with two nightstands and lamps. On the right hand, there was a futon and a dresser. On top of the dresser, there was Starbucks coffee machine and tea, a TV. Inside the dresser, there was a minibar-it didn't open, because it seemed broken. And there were some snacks at the top of the mini bar, next to the TV, but you have to pay for them. Next to the dresser, there was a desk to work, and lastly, the couch was by the windows with a little ottoman and additional chair. The bed was comfortable, and it also had these little night-lights over the pillows that you can turn on. The thing is that if you turn it on one side, they turn on across the whole row, so if you're planning on reading while your significant other goes to sleep, you don't want to keep those on. Everyone was pretty friendly, from check-in and check-out, and no one made any deal over us coming in after midnight, when we returned after the New Year's Eve party. The elevators are in a little area behind the Check-in desks; it's a pretty narrow space, so it gets really hectic and chaotic during the day. The other thing that I was confused about was the desk space. There seems to be a lot of desk space, right in front of you as you walk in, and on the left as well. I just wasn't sure where to go to check-in--whether I had to go to the one right in front of me, or I could also use the desk space with the person on the left hand-side. I wish they clarified that a little bit more, with some signage. Lastly, there was a $20 "eat well" thing included in the price of the hotel, about which my fiancé and I were confused. No one really explained to us what the purpose of the $20 was until we checked out. Turns out that it is $20 that you can use to purchase food or drink at the restaurant in the hotel, which was to the right of the reception. We didn't dine for breakfast there (slight mistake because nothing else was open in the vicinity to eat), but we did get Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate. It appears that the hotel has a partnership with Starbucks so you'll see some of those products around, if you're a fan of Starbucks. If you don't use up the $20, (which is what we did), you'll still have to leave the remaining amount as a tip at the restaurant. I would consider coming back some time.
"Lovely location and fantastic rooms!"
The hotel itself is amazing. Fantastic location to Grand Central and an amazing view of the Chrysler Building. There’s a CVS nearby and a wine/spirits store in the opposite direction. The size and price of the rooms is positively amazing and the tub was soo long. Only issue was a mix-up with the payment of our room. We had a prepaid receipt from our company travel agency but the front desk agent insisted that we had to prepay on our own personal card. Not the worst headache, as we were able to call the travel agency once we got into the room and had it sorted out within 20 minutes, just very unexpected. As everyone knows it only takes a second to get pending charges on your card, 2-5 business days for them to be released 🙄
"Comfortable, Central & Clean & view was wow!"
Highly recommend this Hotel. We found the location ideal for 1st time visitors to NYC, aprox a mile from Times Square, few blocks from Byrant Park. Staff were friendly , check-in efficient & swift. The room was spacious enough for NYC & decor aesthetically pleasing. Although not much time to avail of relaxing in room we liked the option of netflix on the large flatscreen TV. Would definitely stay here again. Luxury hotel mid-range price
"Westin grand central"
No problems checking in. Room was a good size and housekeeping was very good. Didn't eat in the restaurant but it was fine when we went for a drink. Ask for a fridge when you check as you can't remove items from mini bar without being charged. Great location. Cvs, shops and restaurants close by. 15 mins walk to times square, empire state building etc. Would stay again.
